The friendship between Clare Edwards and Liam Berish began when they both worked on the newspaper and they kissed though neither of them had feelings for each other.

Season 11[]
In Should've Said No (2), Clare and Liam first meet at Degrassi Movie Night after Alli sets them up in an attempt to help Clare get over Jake. Alli tells Clare that Liam likes music and Liam adds that she said Clare is a fan of British New Wave, to which Clare makes a surprised face and asks "who isn't?" Liam leads Clare to a place in front of the screen to watch the movie but it's so close to Jake, who is on a date with Katie, that Clare asks Liam to get some fresh air. They leave the theater room and sit on a bench in the corridor. Liam begins talking in order to break the awkwardness between them but Clare, still bothered by seeing Jake on a date with Katie, starts kissing Liam. Although Liam doesn't seem displeased, he is a little confused and asks what she's doing because although he likes "being used in that way" she might upset Jake, who Liam knows she likes. Clare says she and Jake are just friends but Liam knows better and points out that she watches Jake like he watches rock documentaries. Clare replies that she doesn't want to and that she wishes kissing Jake felt the same as kissing Liam. This causes Liam to say "ouch," lightly offended that she's suggested she feels nothing when kissing him. She says if she got with Jake all they would do is hurt each other as Jake walks out from the theater. Liam starts to get up and sarcastically adds that what her and Jake have right now seems "way better" and excuses himself back to the movie. As he passes Jake, he friendly pats him on the back, looks back at Clare, and warns "watch her man, she's frisky." Clare chuckles as Jake makes a surprised face.
In In the Cold, Cold Night (1), Clare walks into the Media Immersion room and tells the Degrassi Daily team that she has her article on the food drive all set, but when she looks up she asks where Katie is. Luke, who is sitting with the rest of the team tells her that Katie is dealing with personal issues and won't be back until the end of the break. Liam tells her he decided to postpone the paper until then and tells everyone to enjoy their break. Clare pushes back and asks if they're giving up because Katie isn't here. Liam says it's one less thing to do before the holidays but Clare says the holiday edition is an institution. Liam says the team needs a break and Clare says she can do it herself. Liam scoffs at this and asks if she can do every article, listing them off. She looks uneasily at him but says she might just have to hire a new team. He smiles again, asking if she can do that by the end of the week. She says sure and he tells her good luck before walking off as she awkwardly reassures herself she can do it all.
