Eleanor "Ellie" Nash is a Class of 2006 graduate of Degrassi Community School. Ellie began her freshman year in Season 2 as the new goth girl. Year after year, she gradually toned down her goth look, but still remained more or less true to herself. Due to her father Colonel Nash's absence and her mother Caroline Nash's alcoholism, she dealt with self-harming issues, but with the help of group therapy, she overcame them.
She was known to have a passion for journalism. Her best friends are Marco Del Rossi, Ashley Kerwin, Paige Michalchuk and Craig Manning, for whom she harbored an unrequited crush for over two years before her feelings were eventually returned. She is also good friends with Dylan Michalchuk, Alex NuƱez and Jimmy Brooks. She was rivals with Manny Santos for the affections of Craig but it was implied that they made up. She was written out in Degrassi Goes Hollywood, in which her most notable storyline came full circle after her father returned from Afghanistan. Ellie was portrayed by Stacey Farber.
Character History
Season 2
In Karma Chameleon, Ellie Nash made her first appearance as the new goth girl. In her very first episode, she became enemies with Paige Michalchuk when she refused to move seats in the Media Immersion lab so that Hazel Aden could sit beside Paige.
In Weird Science, Jimmy Brooks tried to ask her out. Ellie said that he was cute but she declined as he previously dated Ashley Kerwin, her new best friend and a girl who didn't have many friends due to past mistakes. Shortly afterwards, Spinner Mason bumped into her and she irritably told him to open his eyes. Their brief physical contact gave him an erection. To Jimmy's irritation, she gave Spinner her number later that day. Ellie found it extremely amusing when Spinner got an erection in front of the entire English class. It is unknown whether she and Spinner ever went out on a date.
In Drive, when Ellie decided to get her cartilage pierced, Ashley wanted to get her belly button pierced to impress Ellie. When Ashley was about to get it done, she decided that she couldn't go through with it. Later, she told Ellie that she has a huge fear of needles but she was going to have it done as she wanted to be "cool" and score some points with Ellie. Ellie assured her that she was her friend and did not need a piercing to impress her.
In Shout (2), Ellie was very impressed by Paige Michalchuk and the Sex Kittens (PMS)' song about rape at the Pro-Voice Song Writing Contest. Putting her arms around Paige and Ashley's shoulders, she lamented that the band had been robbed as the song had only gotten an honorable mention. Given their poor relationship, Paige was surprised that she liked it but Ellie said, "Paige, you were awesome. Truly."
In Take My Breath Away, Marco approaches Ellie outside after he notices that she's reading The Gashlycrumb Tinies by Edward Gorey. Ellie is surprised that Marco is a fan of the writer's dark books. The two bond for a moment over their shared interest, before Marco leaves her to join his friends. Meanwhile, Hazel and Paige are sitting at a nearby table, where Hazel fills Paige in on her budding crush on Marco. Determined to win him over, Hazel leaves Paige to make conversation with him, while Ellie looks on sadly, doubting her chances of earning Marco's affection.
During Media Immersion class, Ellie sends a secret e-mail to Marco inspired by The Gashlycrumb Tinies. Upon receiving it, Marco turns to look at Hazel, smiling at her. Ashley then joins Ellie, noting the e-mail she sent, and asks to know who Ellie's secret crush is. Flustered, Ellie tells Ashley to mind her own business after she teases her about the e-mail.
Later, while working on a project together in the library, Marco fills Ellie in on the e-mail that he received, telling her that he finds it confusing. Ellie tells Marco that the sender clearly has a crush on Marco. When Marco asks why whoever sent it can't simply be straightforward with him, Ellie tells him that an anonymous e-mail allows the sender, who's probably shy, to be spared potential rejection. When Marco asks Ellie if she's ever felt that way, Ellie says that telling someone that you like them is hard. Marco agrees that it is, all the while looking and smiling at her.
Ellie then decides to tell Marco she likes him, and sends him another e-mail, telling him to meet her after school in the zen garden. Marco, thinking he's going to the garden to meet Hazel, is confused as to why Ellie is there. When Marco asks Ellie if she's the one who'd been sending him the e-mails, Ellie leaves, despite Marco's pleas for her to stay.
Outside, Ellie receives a phone call from Marco. When she begins to tell him that she doesn't handle rejection well, Marco interrupts, telling her to turn around. She turns to see Marco approaching her, phone in hand. He tells her that he didn't reject her, and explains that he was going to the zen garden with the intention of telling Hazel that she isn't his type. He says that he'd much rather date a "cool, alternative" girl like Ellie, and asks her out for coffee.
In a deleted scene in the same episode, Marco asked Ellie what was wrong as she had barely said anything all day. Ellie sarcastically responded, "Anything, anything, anything. How's that?" Craig Manning met them in the corridor and they walked to class together. Marco told Craig that he heard that he and Manny were a couple after their date the previous night. Craig said that this was not the case and Marco advised him to let Manny know that they were not in a relationship. When Craig asked him how he should do that, Marco said that he should be upfront with Manny. Ellie, who had feelings for Marco and had been sending him anonymous secret admirer emails, said that it was not that easy. Marco countered that it was and told Craig that he could not keep things bottled up inside or he would go crazy. Craig realised that he was right and that he should tell Manny how he felt. As they walked behind Craig, Ellie gave Marco a pained look, which confused him.
In Careless Whisper, Marco was wonderful in Ellie's eyes, and they eventually became boyfriend and girlfriend.
However, she soon realized that he acted more like a friend than a boyfriend and after a few arguments, they decided to make out in Ashley's room at a study night to prove their relationship with one another. However, Marco said he was confused about his sexuality and Ellie accepted him, saying she would be his fake girlfriend for the moment.
In Hot for Teacher, both Ellie and Ashley made faces when they smelled Spinner's unpleasant body odour in Math class. Ashley wondered whether they should tell him. Ellie said that honesty never hurt. She walked over to him and said, "Rule number one of puberty, shower every day." Later that day, Ellie was impressed by Ashley's short
story in English class, which ended with the line "Milan just stared into the soul of the eclipse and saw the world for what it was. A shadow of black, empty, despairing nothingness."
In How Soon is Now?, when Marco and Ellie do exceptionally well on a Media Immersion assignment, they are asked to film it. However, things get complicated as everyone says they're so perfect for each other, so Ellie kisses him. Then Ellie changes the ad and gets angry at Marco for making mistakes. They get into a fight, where Marco says that she's treating him like her slave, and Ellie says that's how she feels around him. They later talk to each other, and Marco comes out and tells her that he's gay. She is still upset, but they agree to keep the charade up until Marco is ready to come out to the whole school.
After Craig Manning's father Albert Manning died, in Tears Are Not Enough (2), Ashley confided in Ellie that Craig had laughed at the funeral. Ellie said, "Funerals can be stressful. Weird things happen." After Craig walked over to them, a concerned looking Ellie said "hey" to him. Craig told Ashley that he had signed them up as candidates for king and queen for the end of year luau, much to her surprise. Ellie tried to take their picture but Craig told her to save it for the dance.
Season 3
In Father Figure (1), Ellie was amused that Paige referred to her boyfriend Spinner as "honeybee." Craig said that he bet that she and Marco had pet names as well. He tried to take a photo of Ellie and Marco with his camera but Ellie took one of him first. She blew on her camera like a smoking gun before laughing.
In Pride (1), Ellie went on a trip to the beach with Marco and his group of friends, namely Paige, Jimmy, Spinner and Hazel. The others, especially Paige, made Ellie uncomfortable, but Marco told her to relax. Ellie told Marco that she was not pretending to be his girlfriend anymore, which put Marco in a difficult position. As she was playing her guitar, Marco, encouraged to do so by Spinner, put his arm around her. She became irritated and announced that they had broken up. Spinner then pressured Marco to ask out someone new and suggested Hazel, who had feelings for him. Marco reluctantly agreed and was set into a double date with Spinner and Paige.
On a date with Hazel at The Dot, Ellie walked in with her friend and saw Hazel put her arm around Marco. Ellie was disappointed in him, but didn't say so. Marco, ashamed, knew that she was right and left the Dot. She understood what he was going through and they remained very close friends.
The day after he came out to Spinner in Pride (2), Marco and Ellie heard Craig say to Jimmy, "Alright, Spin asked us to keep it a secret until heās thought about it more, so you canāt tell anybody, alright?" Marco and Ellie were both concerned that Spinner had told them that he was gay and were relieved to learn from Jimmy that he and Craig had been talking about the fact that Spinner was planning a surprise party for Paige's 16th birthday in several weeks. Marco gave Craig and Jimmy a hug and told them that he would take the secret to his grave. Ellie gave them a confused look as she left. Craig and Jimmy were likewise confused.
That night, Marco was gay bashed while en route to Dylan's hockey game. The police showed up and chased the bashers away. Jimmy tried to call Marco, but had no luck since the bashers had broken his phone. He found him with the police, traumatized and crying, and comforted him in a hug. Ellie also supported Marco the next day and assured him that she was there for him.
In Whisper to a Scream, Ellie's father Colonel Nash, an officer in the Canadian Army, was sent on a peacekeeping trip to Afghanistan, leaving Ellie alone with her mother, whose loneliness had driven her to alcoholism. Ellie's problems slowly mount, as she is frequently late for classes, her grades (especially math) begin slipping, and her interview with Caitlin Ryan for the co-op went horribly. Paige, who also wanted the position, gave her a hard time. This, combined with her mother virtually getting drunk every night and ignoring Ellie, became too much for her and she began to cut. Her cutting becomes frequent and she knows she can't stop it. Ellie ends up getting the co-op job. Paige was very upset and made a rude remark to Ellie but she didn't mind. The job seems to help Ellie a bit, but not enough to make her stop hurting herself.
Paige later discovered what Ellie was doing in the girls' washroom, and although they didn't like each other, she told Ms. Suave, the school's guidance counselor. Ellie was angry at Paige, but eventually realized she needed help and they called a truce.
In Accidents Will Happen (2), when she and Craig bumped into each other, Ellie angrily told him to watch where he was going. As he had his arm around Manny at the time and he later kissed her, Ellie surmised that they had begun dating and told Ashley.
In Take On Me, during a Saturday detention with Jimmy, Toby, Hazel and Sean (Breakfast Club style), she begins talking with the group and instantly bonds. When the whole group was separated, Ellie rounds them up and they take an adventure throughout the school, ending up on the roof. Sean asks if she's scared of him, and she replies no and asks if he's freaked out by her, and he replies no also. When Sean admitted he was the one stealing things around school, Ellie showed him her scars. Sean ran his fingers over them and took her hand in his. Ellie was secretly recording this, as she was writing an article for Caitlin about the thefts at school, and felt conflicted.
Back in the classroom, Ellie was rummaging through her bag to take a photo when the tape recorder fell out, playing Sean's admission for all to hear. Angered, Sean crushed the tape with his foot and she lost the respect of the other detainees, despite insisting that she wouldn't use any names. The following day, Ellie approaches Sean at his locker and hands him the tape, saying that there would be no story on the thefts. Sean realizes that she meant no harm and they begin dating.
In Don't Dream It's Over, their relationship is steady, but it does have a few issues. When Ellie makes plans with Sean to go to the movies with him and his friends, she forgets about her plans with Marco, so Ellie takes him along. Jay and Alex, Sean's friends, don't greet him warmly. Sean is sick of Marco hanging around Ellie, and Ashley tries to convince her that change is good but Ellie doesn't see the problem in bringing Marco along with her. After some words of wisdom from Marco, Ellie and Sean make up.
In the same episode, Ellie told Marco that she wanted to go with Ashley to visit Terri MacGregor in the hospital after her boyfriend Rick Murray put her in a coma but said that, since she did not really know Terri, it would seem morbid.
In Rock and Roll High School, Ellie is very supportive of Ashley when Craig cheats on her with Manny, and they both make snide remarks toward the two. During a Battle of the Bands competition, Ellie joined Ashley's anti-Craig band, Hell Hath No Fury.
In Our House, when Sean's brother, Tracker, wants to move to Alberta, Ellie is worried and says that long distance won't work, but when he reveals he can stay she is overjoyed. Amy also tries to steal Sean away from Ellie, but Sean is not moved at all.
In The Power Of Love, Ellie arrives at the dance with Sean.
Season 4
In King of Pain, Ellie becomes friends with Alex after Marco makes her vice president.
In Mercy Street, Ellie sarcastically called Emma and Paige heroes when they rallied the school against Rick Murray.
In Anywhere I Lay My Head, Ellie's mother's drinking was getting worse, and this caused Sean to worry as he suspected that she may be cutting herself again, despite her denial of this. He offered Ellie to move in with him, which Ellie rejected, as she believed that she needed to take care of her mother. Two events, however, cause her to have a change of heart. First, her mom shows up drunk to "Parent-Teacher Night" and as a result humiliates her in front of her friends and teachers with her drunken antics, and also slaps Sean and tells him to stay away from Ellie. Later that night, when she wakes up to the beeping of the fire alarm and the stench of smoke, she discovered that her mother had left a pot burning on the stove before proceeding to get
drunk and pass out. The flames spread to the curtains, destroying the kitchen and forcing Ellie and her mother to temporarily relocate. Ellie told her mom that she would stay at Ashley's house, but instead moved in with Sean.
A few days later, at a housewarming party that Marco had convinced her to have, Ellie's mom comes in, after finding out that she had lied. As they are about to leave the room, Sean grabs her mother's arm and tells her that Ellie is better off there. Her mother slaps Sean across the face and leaves leaving Sean stunned. Once home, Ellie shows her mom the scars and cutting equipment, and says that if she stays with her she will cut again, which leaves them both crying. While Ellie goes back and stays with Sean, her mother goes into rehab. Ellie buys a ferret (which she names Bueller) to live with her and Sean.
In Back In Black, after the school shooting, Ellie tries to be there for Sean, who is considered a "hero" for saving Emma's life. However, whilst being interviewed, the reporter says that she previously interviewed his parents and shows him the tape. He becomes furious, calling it an act as, according to him, he feels as though his parents gave up on him and were putting on an act. Ellie wanted him to talk about it, but he refused. Jumping from the truck after smashing a T.V, he finds Jay with Emma and basically kidnaps all three. Sean drives to Wasaga Beach and has run ins with both Tyler, the kid he deafened in one ear, and his parents. Ellie and Sean have a fight, and then Sean talks to his parents. Sean decides to stay in Wasaga, which upsets Ellie but they exchange "I Love You"s before she leaves.
After Craig kissed her in Neutron Dance, Ashley told Ellie that she was thinking about giving him another chance and getting back together. Ellie, still bitter over her recent break-up with Sean, said, "Guys suck, Ashley. They enjoy messing with our feelings - and then sticking us with the rent." She believed that it was only a matter of time before Craig cheated on Ashley again. However, Ashley ignored Ellie's advice and she and Craig got back together the next day.
In Secret (1), Ashley said to Ellie that she was worried about Craig as he was bipolar. Ellie told her that it was not her job to worry about it and that she should take it from "another sicko." Craig sat down beside them and asked them who was a sicko. Ellie told him that she was referring to the goulash on his tray and promptly left. Craig then asked Ashley what they had been talking about and she lied to him by saying that she had not told Ellie that he was bipolar. She told him that there was a support group for teenagers with mental health problems and advised him to go. While he predicted that he would hate it, he went anyway and found it beneficial until Ellie arrived. The next day at school, Craig yelled at Ashley for sending him to Ellie's group. When she told him that she did not think that he would mind, he said that she did not think at all.
Several hours later, Ellie came to Craig's house on the pretext of having her guitar repaired but admitted almost immediately that it was an excuse. She told Craig that she used to cut herself, saying that, "What's bizarre is I'm always going to be a cutter. Even if I don't do it for years, it's still me." He confided in her that he was bipolar and she tried to cheer him up by reminding him that the same was true of Kurt Cobain. She then advised him to talk to Ashley, telling him that she cared about him. Craig said that he knew that but he was bothered by the fact that all she ever talked about lately was his medications, his therapist and his moods. In his garage that night, Ashley said that she should have told him that it was Ellie's group earlier. Craig told her that he wanted to be her normal boyfriend, not some crazy guy that she had to save all the time, and talk about things like music, movies and even goulash rather than his condition. Ashley kissed him and they reconciled. After Craig and Ellie opened up to each other about their mental health problems, they became friends.
In Queen of Hearts, Ellie is left to live alone once Sean leaves and Ferret Bueller dies. When she found it hard to pay her rent, she sought out a way to earn some cash. With the help of Marco, Ellie learned to play a new card game, which she practiced at and eventually became very skilled with. After winning $10 from a game with Craig, Jimmy, and Alex, Ellie thought about playing Dylan's hockey team with Alex for more cash. When Ellie realized Alex was playing for high stakes, she became hesitant about keeping her trust in Alex. But when Alex surprised Ellie
with a game winning hand, Ellie learned a lesson in trust and in gambling Afterward, Ellie realized that what she was doing wasn't the best way to earn her rent money and Alex then told her what she needed to know about her mother after Ellie offered Alex a chance to move in with her but refused do to lack of trust and long term payments. When she finally proved to herself that her mother was sober and not drunk by calling her to go to Sean's old place, she decided to move back in with her, as they were both tired of being alone, but made her mother promise to try and watch her drinking problem carefully. Mrs. Nash agreed to do her best and at least try, day by day.
In Moonlight Desires, Ellie helped Marco to organise the blood drive at Degrassi by handing out stickers. She playfully stuck one of them on Craig's left cheek but he promptly removed it. Like Craig, she was shocked when Marco told them had he hoped to graduate early and move in with Dylan. The next day, she and Craig were extremely angry that Marco was refused permission to donate blood because he was gay and had sex with Dylan. After Marco discovered that Dylan was seeing other people, he phoned Ellie to discuss the situation. Alex claimed that promiscuity was a guy thing rather than a gay thing. Craig took exception to this but Ellie reminded him that he had dated Ashley and Manny at the same time the previous year.
In Goin' Down the Road (1), Ellie was cast as a goth girl in Kevin Smith's new film Jay and Silent Bob Go Canadian, Eh!, which was being shot at Degrassi. After filming a scene with Kevin and Jason Mewes, she complained to Craig that her Goth costume was very 1988. She tried to cheer him up but he said that he did not feel like smiling as Ashley was going to spend the summer in England, where she would meet someone much cooler than him and never come back. Given his depressed attitude, Ellie jokingly referred to him as "Morrissey." Kevin told him that instead of hanging around Degrassi all summer, he should follow Ashley to London. Ellie was a little disturbed when Jason touched her hair.
In Goin' Down the Road (2), Ellie filmed another scene of Jay and Silent Bob Go Canadian, Eh! in which her character tells the science teacher Mrs Hoffman, played by Caitlin Ryan, that Jay went into her purse, stole her tampons and stuck them up Silent Bob's nose. After the first take, Jason kept his hand on her knee and she was a little freaked out. She nervously asked him to remove it. As Caitlin kept getting her lines wrong, the scene took 35 takes before Kevin, already angry at the news that Caitlin and Joey Jeremiah were engaged, finally replaced her. Several weeks later, when filming wrapped, Kevin gave her a hug.
Season 5
In Venus (1), while Ashley and Marco were away over the summer, Ellie and Craig bonded, becoming best friends. Marco was jealous of the fact that the two of them have even developed hand signals as his relationship with Ellie did not include them. On the first day of school, Ellie received an email from Ashley, telling her that she had met a boy named Alistair and started a relationship with him. As Marco let her know that it was Craig's 17th birthday the next day, she decided not to tell him yet and organized a party at the Dot for him. However, she mentioned it to Spinner, who later told Craig that he deserved better than Ashley. Craig demanded an explanation from Ellie, who told him that Ashley had dumped him via email. He was furious with her but Marco, who also knew about it, told Craig not to shoot the messenger. After discovering that he was the last person to know, Craig said, "Screw you" to Ellie and left the Dot in a rage. Ellie was very hurt by his unkind words. Marco realized that she had feelings for Craig, which she denied.
The next day at school in Venus (2), Marco attempted to get Craig and Ellie to reconcile but neither of them were receptive to his efforts. He told Ellie that she and Craig should not stop hanging out together because of one argument as they had been best friends all summer. Given that Ellie had recently began playing the drums again and Craig refused to allow Spinner back into Downtown Sasquatch, Marco suggested that Ellie join it. In English class, she told Craig that Ashley had wanted to tell him herself but not until the time was right as she was concerned. Craig angrily told her that he was not going to go off his meds and "go all crazy." He said that Ellie knew that he was fine as they hung out all summer and that he did not need her to protect him. Ellie responded, "All this anger is for Ashley. Buy a ticket, go to London and freak on her there."
Later that day, Craig, Marco and Jimmy were having lunch in the cafeteria and Marco motioned for Ellie to join them. However, Ellie instead had lunch with Paige and Hazel. She looked over to Craig but he averted his gaze. The following day, after they had both calmed down, Ellie visited Craig in his garage. She apologized for not telling him that Ashley had broken up with him as soon as she found out and not realizing that he did not need her to protect him. After some hesitation, he apologized to her for overreacting at the Dot. Their friendship repaired, Ellie told Craig that, since she was between bands and Downtown Sasquatch was between drummers, she should join his band. After Ellie demonstrated her drumming proficiency, Craig readily agreed.
In Weddings, Parties, Anything, Craig, Ellie, Marco and Jimmy were practicing in his garage. He became annoyed when Jimmy started to play a guitar solo in the middle of his singing and cut the performance short. Jimmy criticized Craig's decision to try and get the band a gig at a wedding, which he considered lame. He, Jimmy and Marco began arguing but they were interrupted by Ellie banging her symbols. She told that they would get nowhere by criticizing each other and Jimmy conceded that weddings were gigs. After Jimmy and Marco left, Craig thanked Ellie for backing him up. She told him that she enjoyed playing with him and then said that she meant the band. He complimented her on drumming but she told him that she still needed help. As he showed how to improve her funk drumming, they seemed to be growing closer. The next day at the car lot, a potential customer, Diane, told Joey that her ex-boyfriend's band was supposed to play at her sister's wedding and she had found no one to replace them. Joey introduced her to Craig and invited her over to his house to see the band audition.
At school, Marco asked him what they happened with Ellie after he and Jimmy had left. Craig told him that he gave her a drumming lesson and they watched a DVD. He said that 90% of his troubles in life were caused by girls and, as such, he intended to be a monk for the year, focusing on nothing other than school and the band. In therapy group, Craig said that he owed his recovery to Ellie as she had been "incredible" and thanked her for all of her help. Ellie was delighted. When Joey commented that Ellie was a nice, cute girl, Craig said that she was merely a friend who was a girl. Joey told him that he knew from personal experience that there was no such thing.
After Diane hired the band for the wedding gig, they went to the Dot to celebrate but Marco and Jimmy left so that Craig and Ellie would be alone. Ellie thanked Craig for giving her the drum lesson and he again thanked her for all of her support. He did not realize that Ellie was flirting with him. When Manny came in, Craig beckoned her over to join them. Ellie was very annoyed at this. The next day, Marco, describing himself as Craig's "best friend in the whole world," asked him how the date went. Craig denied that it was a date as "monks don't date." He claimed that it was just friends hanging out and mentioned that Manny had joined them. Marco said, "Cue the romantic train wreck." On the day of the wedding, Ellie wore an attractive black dress and Craig was so distracted that he let go of the large speaker that he and Marco were lifting, causing it to fall on Marco's toe. Manny then arrived wearing a turquoise dress and Craig became even more distracted. He explained to the band that he had invited Manny along to help them. Ellie, once again very annoyed by Manny's presence, said, "Yeah, very practical roadie costume."
Before the gig, Manny was doing her make-up and Ellie told her to do something. Manny said that Craig loves her tambourine but Ellie responded that they did not need any low-rent pop-tarts in the band. Manny told that they say that there should be at least one attractive girl in every band. During the performance, Craig invited Manny on stage to play the tambourine and Ellie became so angry that she threw one of her drumsticks at Manny's head. When Manny accused her of it, Ellie remarked that she was surprised that she could even feel it through all of her hairspray. Ellie stormed out and Craig followed her, asking what the hell was going on. She said, "You tell me! You're the one who called her, you're the one who sat there drooling over her like you were some perv." She then told him that her outfit was not her as she did not dress up. When Craig said that he was flattered in an uncertain tone of voice, she told him not to be as it was for the gig and that it did not mean anything. Craig said that she was a really good friend who was always there for him and that she had seen him in the gutter where he did not want anyone else to see him. Ellie, who was very hurt, sarcastically said that she was glad to be there for him and told him that she would see him in group. The next day, Craig and Manny began a new relationship.
In I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, with Craig and Manny dating, Ellie became friends with Jimmy and discovered that he was a talented artist and enjoyed expressing himself through art, especially after the shooting. Ellie took him to an art exhibition, causing him to miss wheelchair basketball tryouts, which caused a fight between Jimmy and his father and Hazel, his girlfriend. Ellie helped Jimmy understand that he didn't have to follow through with basketball, which inspired him to paint. When Jimmy is helping with the painting of the wall mural, he paints Ellie's face which makes Hazel jealous. He explains that he loves Hazel, but Ellie inspires him, resulting in her dumping him.
In Redemption Song, Jimmy realized that he developed a crush on Ellie.
In The Lexicon of Love (1), Ellie and Jimmy attended the Toronto premiere of Jay and Silent Bob Go Canadian, Eh! together. At the after party, he complimented her performance in the film, though she pointed out that she only had five lines.
In Together Forever, Craig and Ellie were hanging out in his garage discussing what they would do with their money when Downtown Sasquatch was discovered at the Northern Sound Showcase in two days time. Craig wanted to buy a car while Ellie planned to invest it and perhaps buy a condo. Craig accused her of being boring and began tickling her. Joey came in and told Craig that Manny was on the phone for him. Craig said to tell Manny that he was studying. When Joey pointed out that it did not look like studying, Craig sarcastically said, "Thanks, Mom." After Joey left, Ellie told Craig that he really did have to study for his history presentation the next day but Craig said that it was more concerned with the band.
Craig failed his presentation on World War I due to his lack of preparedness in spite of Ellie's attempts to help him in class. At the Dot, he told Ellie, Marco and Jimmy that he was not worried as their grades had already been submitted and in any event, he was not terribly interested in going to university in the first place. Jimmy asked Ellie if she really planned to take a year off and follow Craig around. Somewhat annoyed, Craig told him that she would not be doing that; they would instead be cutting their own album after they won the Showcase and were given recording time in Vancouver during the summer.
At the Showcase, a record producer named Leo Davies was impressed by Craig's vocals but claimed that the band's sound was a little rough. In spite of this, he offered to manage Downtown Sasquatch and Craig accepted immediately. At the photoshoot the next day, Leo placed Craig in the foreground with Marco, Ellie and Jimmy in the background and condescendingly referred to Ellie as "Chick with Sticks." Craig told him that he was "kind of about the band" but Leo said that now the band was all about him. At the Dot the next day, Leo told the band that the Showcase had asked them to return for another performance and, if they won, they would fly out to Vancouver at the weekend to record their material. Marco pointed out that they had exams and essays to do and missing them would screw up their year but Leo said that the band was more important. He told Craig that the band still sounded rough, particularly the drumming, but Craig promised him that Ellie would be ready.
That night, Craig gave Ellie a drumming lesson but Manny arrived in the middle of it and accused him of caring about nothing but the band. She said that it appeared to be all about Ellie and stormed off. Craig followed her, leaving Ellie alone. When they next performed for Leo, he said that they had improved but that Ellie was still the weakest link. She told him that she would practice all night and get it right but Leo responded that there were plenty of other drummers in Toronto and that Ellie was no more qualified to drum than he was to fly airplanes. Craig was furious and told Leo that there were plenty of other singers in Toronto as well. Dejected, Craig filled out the acceptance form from the University of Toronto but did not send it away.
In his garage the next day, Ellie told Craig that the Showcase was too good an opportunity for him to pass up. She said that she could not drum, Marco was not much better on bass and that Jimmy was more interested in painting and that Leo had only seen them as excess baggage in the first place. Craig told her that, if he did win, it would mean leaving Toronto and worried about what would happen to Manny, Joey and Angie in his absence. She said that they would manage and be fine. When Craig asked her if she would be okay without him, she responded that she would wave him goodbye because it was what she had to do. Craig won the Showcase. Before he left for Vancouver, Ellie gave him a hug. As Ellie walked away, Craig looked after her longingly. In spite of this, he was delighted to be going to Vancouver as his dreams had come true.
In I Against I, Ellie supported Marco's safe-sex campaign. When Ellie described religion as "so boring and lame," Marco mentioned that he was Catholic. This surprised Ellie, who pointed out that he was gay. When Marco asked if this meant that he could not be Christian, she said, "All Iām saying is the church...not too big on the gays." He told her that things would change but it would take time. However, Ellie was not convinced and dismissively said, "Whatevskis."
Later that day, he told Spinner that Ellie and Jimmy were "doing this art thing like 24/7." Since Craig had moved to Vancouver to pursue his solo music career and Paige and Alex had become a couple, Marco was lonely and he became friends with Spinner again.
When Ashley returned home from London in High Fidelity (2), Ellie told her that Craig was in Vancouver pursuing his solo music career and that he was dating Manny. Ashley said that this made her "vaguely itchy," referring to their love triangle two years earlier. When Ashley asked if she was dating anyone, Ellie told her that she was crushing on someone "as usual" but it was never going to happen "as usual." She was referring to Craig but Ashley believed that she meant Jimmy, who confided in her that he had feelings for Ellie.
The next day, at the variety show before the graduation of the Class of 2006, Jimmy told Ellie that she had become one of his best friends and asked her if she wanted to take their friendship to the next level. However, she told him that she did not feel that way about him. She felt guilty about hurting him, sadly telling Ashley that she had feelings for someone else. Shortly afterwards, Craig returned to Toronto to surprise Manny. He waved at Ellie, who gave him an awkward look before averting her gaze.
Season 6
In Here Comes Your Man (1), Ellie helped Marco and Dylan unpack their things as they moved into their new apartment. As they needed a third roommate, Marco invited Ellie to join them but she joked that "matters of leaving the toilet seat up" meant that she would prefer to live in student residence at Toronto University. When Paige gave Ellie a cup of coffee and quipped that she took it "black, like her soul," Ellie responded that she would miss Paige's "cutting jibes" when she left for Banting University, which she was glad to learn would be in only two days. In spite of their combative relationship, Paige wanted to organise a party for everyone before they went their separate ways and specifically included Ellie in that.
In the meantime, Ellie and Marco had to pick out university courses. Marco suggested Medieval Lit: Monsters in the Mist but Ellie did not want to take any courses where she had to read Beowulf. She also balked at the idea of taking Foucault and Postmodernist Marxist Theory since she was unsure as to what it even meant.
In Here Comes Your Man (2), Ellie's new roommate, Amberley, was very colorful, tidy, and a bit weird. Her personality entirely clashed with Ellie's. Ellie was annoyed when Amberley cleaned her stuff, folded her clothes and took down her "inappropriate pictures." Amberley also called Ellie by her full name, Eleanor, and made a photo album that was supposed to include all the precious moments that they would have over the course of the next year. Shortly afterwards, Ellie wrote an editorial about roommates for the university newspaper, The Core, and mentioned how weird Amberley was, referring to her as the "Stepford Omarosa, minus the looks." She submitted it anonymously, but Jesse Stefanovic, the editor, published it with her name on it. To make it up to her, he agreed to allow her to write an article about the tuition rally. Amberley kicked Ellie out of their dorm room, so she moved in with Dylan and Marco, which Marco was extremely happy about because many of his friends were away.
In True Colours, Ellie confronted Jesse about why her article about tuition costs was not in the final print of the newspaper. He responded that he did not publish it because it was filled with "rookie reporter mistakes." Ellie complained about how she put effort into doing the research for the article but everyone ignored her complaints. Later, Ellie approached Jesse, apologizing for screwing up, saying that she would do better if given another chance. Jesse told her that her article was lacking passion and that The Core did not have time for school projects. The two engage in banter and Jesse surprised her by asking her out to get a beer. After their date, the two went back to Ellie's house, appearing as if their date went well. Jesse leaned in and kisses Ellie on the left cheek, before leaving for the night. Marco saw this and joked, "Guess this means youāre officially over Craig." Ellie hit him with her newspaper and smiled.
The next day, Ellie was surprised that she was assigned a great story, and Jesse's ex-girlfriend Nina commented that she only got the story because she is the "nubile, eager frosh that Jessie gets it on with." Ellie cooked a big meal for herself, Marco and Dylan in their house as she was stressed. Marco said, "Wow. I can feel my overpriced designer jeans not fitting as we speak." Dylan tasted the food before leaving and said, "I think your designer jeans are safe." She sought Marco's advice on what to do, telling him that she was being treated "like the new Core tramp" because Jesse had given her a plum music assignment. Marco replied, "So you got to choose. Ellie, self-respect or Jesse. It sounds like a pretty easy call." Ellie reminded him that Jesse was very handsome, meaning that it was not an easy call. Marco told her that the Devil was "way cut...Brad Pitt cute" and not to sell out because of a pretty face. Ellie sarcastically said, "Thank you, Father Marco." However, she followed his advice.
She exchanged her piece with her co-worker Eric for one about men's water polo, to Jesse's dismay. He later told her that he did not give Ellie the music piece to get her in pants, but because she loved music and that everyone else was busy. Jesse said that she was a good writer and that he could help the fact that he thought that she was cute. Ellie kissed him, and the two began a secret relationship, which they plan to keep hidden from their co-workers.
In Eyes Without a Face (2), Ellie and Ashley discussed the former's relationship with Jesse in Ellie's house. Ellie told her that Jesse was "cute, funny, um, sexy, smart, intimidatingly so" and that she did not know what he saw in her. Ashley reproachfully said, "Oh c'mon, El." Ellie revealed that she felt inexperienced compared to Jesse as he was 22 and she had only dated Marco and Sean and did not have sex with either of them. She objected to Ashley's use of the phrase "doing it" as she found the fact that she was still a virgin hugely embarrassing. Ashley advised her to talk to Jesse about having sex and to be prepared for when it happened, reminding her that there was a health clinic on the university campus.
On the way out of the sexual health office, Ellie bumped into Jesse and she dropped the numerous birth control products that she was carrying. As Jesse helped her gather them up, an embarrassed Ellie explained that she had only wanted birth control literature for an article that she hoped to write but the woman in the office insisted that she take the products as well. Nina saw this and sneered at Ellie. The next day, Ellie pitched a series of articles about sexual health on campus, to the amusement of the other reporters, particularly Nina. Jesse rejected it as he felt that the readers of The Core were informed but Ellie continued pitching it until Jesse told her that it was dead. She later told Jesse that she wanted to both resign from the paper and end their relationship. She accused Jesse for just watching while she made a "complete ass" of herself. He told that he was trying to spare her further embarrassment but she kept going on and on. Jesse then asked her why she needed so much birth control and she began blushing. He said that she was cute when she was mortified. Ellie joked, "Well, remind me to mortify myself more often." He told her that they needed to have a talk about the future of their relationship. They then kissed. Ellie presumably lost her virginity to Jesse shortly thereafter.
In Working for the Weekend, Ellie helped Jimmy and Spinner make T-Shirts for their business, Squatch Designs.
In What's It Feel Like to Be a Ghost? (1), Craig returned to Toronto to perform at a music festival. At his welcome home party at Marco and Ellie's house, he played a song for Marco, Ellie, Dylan, Spinner and Jesse which he wrote on the Vancouver ferry. When Ellie mentioned that she loved the allusions to Herman Melville, Manny glared at her but Craig failed to notice. Ellie asked him to play another song while an even more annoyed Manny pointed at her watch. Craig again failed to notice and continued playing his guitar. The next day, Craig told Marco and Ellie that Manny had nailed her audition and they were looking at a future acting legend. Manny admitted to Craig that she felt a buzz from auditioning and wished that she could do it again. Craig said that he felt the same way during his gigs.
Manny went to Craig's gig with Emma and Sean and happily told them that she and Craig had reconnected since he had come back to Toronto. However, she was annoyed by the presence of Ellie, whom she derisively referred to as āCraig's shadowā and āSmelly McSnootypants.ā Manny then went backstage and was extremely disturbed to find Craig snorting cocaine in his dressing room. Emma noticed the change in her mood but Manny shrugged it off. After Craig performed his new song āDrowningā, Marco told Craig that it was awesome and Ellie called him a genius. She then asked him if that was why he had asked her about drowning allegories the previous month. Craig was delighted that Ellie understood him so well and gave her a hug. He then went over to Manny to see if she was alright as he could tell that she was upset during his performance but she lied to him and said that she was fine.
The next day, Craig invited Manny to the dinner party that Ellie was throwing in his honour. Manny joked that Ellie would probably poison the food if she knew that she was coming. Craig said that she needed to get over Ellie but Manny claimed that she was intimidated by Ellie's intelligence. Craig tried to comfort Manny by assuring her that while she was not book smart like Ellie, she was ābrilliant in every other way.ā
At the dinner party, Ellie, Jesse and Craig discussed Rosseau's work. Manny tried to contribute but the conversation was over her head. Craig told her that he was an 18th Century philosopher and that Ellie had sent him one of his books while he was on the road. The conversation turned to Carl Jung's view that everyone had, in Marco's words, āmassive complexes.ā Ellie joked that she had no neuroses, of course, but Manny countered, āReally? Because I thought being constantly rejected by guys would mess you up, Ellie.ā A visibly annoyed Ellie responded, āYeah. Yeah, I feel bad that I take time to meet guys who actually like me. In fact, I donāt know how I made it through high school without having my breasts shown online.ā Manny ran out upset. Craig followed her but pointed out that Manny had started it and asked why she could not just get over Ellie. Manny said that it was because Ellie made her feel inadequate and asked Craig to give her some coke to boost her confidence. After getting high, they returned to the dinner party where they proceeded to laugh hysterically when Manny knocked over a glass. The next morning, Ellie brought a cup of coffee up to Craig's room and found a bag of coke. She confronted him about it but he lied to her, claiming that it was Manny's.
In What's It Feel Like to Be a Ghost? (2), Ellie was preparing to interview Craig about his life as a musician for The Core. She mentioned to Jesse that she had found the coke on Craig's bedroom floor and was annoyed when he assumed that it belonged to Craig. She told him that Craig had claimed that it belonged to Manny, whom she described as a ātoxic influence.ā However, Jesse was not convinced. He told an excited Ellie that he had arranged for her to interview Taking Back Sunday and they kissed. Craig then entered the office, telling Ellie that he did not have time for the interview at the moment as he had to clear out Joey's garage since he and Angela were moving to Calgary. Ellie said that she would help and assured Jesse that she would be on time to interview Taking Back Sunday.
In Joey's garage, Ellie interviewed him and he confided in her that he had expected everything to be the same when he returned but all of his old friends were moving on. Ellie said that she would always be there for him. She then received a text from Jesse, who told her that Taking Back Sunday were waiting for her. She brought Craig along and introduced him to the band, who asked him to perform the following night during a break in their set. Before she could continue her interview with Craig, he left to tell Manny. Much to Jesse's annoyance, Ellie was also unable to finish her interview with the band due to Craig's presence. Jesse again told her that Craig was a drug addict and said, āYou know what's really wrong? The fact that Craig keeps crapping on you, and you keep going back for more!ā
In Marco and Ellie's house, Manny suggested that they go see a film or get a bite to eat but Craig instead wanted to snort more coke. She said that she felt horrible after taking it the previous night and never wanted to do so again. Craig angrily told her that the last two days had been the best of his life and he did not want her to ruin them. Manny realised that he had chosen drugs over her and promptly dumped him. As she left the house, she met Ellie and sarcastically told her that Craig was all hers. Ellie accused Manny of giving the drugs to Craig but Manny retorted that Craig had lied, which was what drug addicts do. Ellie again confronted Craig about his drug use and got him to admit that he was an addict. She convinced him to attend group therapy with her to discuss his problem and he agreed. The next day, he turned up at the clinic but did not enter the meeting room.
That evening, Ellie visited Craig backstage and he told her that he could not attend the group therapy session as something had come up. She began to go through his things and found more drugs. She threatened to call Joey and bring an end to his rock star lifestyle. He asked her why she would do that to him but she replied that he knew why. Craig kissed her and told a delighted Ellie that he loved her. She said that she loved him too. He responded, āSo donāt make me stop. Please. I need it. Donāt call Joey.ā She pushed him away and called him a bastard, having realized that he would say or do anything to get his hands on more drugs. During his performance, Craig got a nosebleed as a result of his drug use as a horrified Ellie looked on and he finally realized that he had a serious problem.
The next morning, Ellie gave Craig an airline ticket and told that he was on the 11 am flight to Calgary, where Joey was waiting for him. She said that Mr Simpson was there to make sure that he got on the plane. She walked away and began crying but Craig ran after her and said, āEllie, I know I messed up, badly, but I am glad for one thing. I was finally able to be honest with you. I meant what I said and I felt that way for a long time.ā She told him that it was beside the point as he needed help. Craig then suggested that they meet up after he got out of rehab but Ellie dismissed this by saying āGoodbye, Craigā before walking away, heartbroken. Craig was guilt-stricken at having hurt her so badly.
In Rock This Town, at Liberty's birthday party, Ellie apologized to Manny about what happened with Craig and they called a truce. She told Manny that even though she was "so incredibly pissed" at Craig, she still thought about him and worried about him a little. Manny admitted that she felt the same way. Ellie commented, "He really messed with us" before leaving. Soon afterwards, J.T. Yorke was murdered by Drake Lempkey, a Lakehurst Secondary School thug.
In The Bitterest Pill, Ellie interviewed many students, including Jimmy and Toby Isaacs, about their opinions on J.T. and if he was a target by the Lakehurst students. All her information would be submitted to her article at The Core. She was seen at the school J.T. Yorke memorial smiling at his pictures.
In the same episode, Ashley tried to convince Ellie to tell Jesse about her kiss with Craig, but she thought she would lose him if she did. At the office, Jesse gave her coupons and said that he loved her, which made Ellie admit her kiss. He was not angry and revealed that he fooled around with a girl at a bar. After a fight, Ellie ignored him but after a talk with Jimmy about love, the pair reconciled with Ellie admitting that she loved him too.
In If You Leave, Marco convinced Ellie to go to the cinema with Kiko and Suki so he could have a romantic dinner with Dylan.
In Free Fallin' (1), Ellie went home for the weekend with her laundry.
In Free Fallin' (2), she returned to the house that she shared with Marco and Dylan. As the house was once again full, Paige went to stay with Alex.
In Love My Way, Ellie and Jesse attended the going away party that Marco threw for Dylan, who was moving to Switzerland to play for Zurich Hockey Club. Jesse invited Ellie to dance but she refused as she did not like dancing. They began to argue about it as she felt that Jesse was implying that she was boring. She told him that she did not want to fight about it at the party as it was embarrassing. The next day at the Core office, Jesse asked her why she shot him down every time that he made a joke or brought up a story idea. When he accused her of being very negative, she told him that she did not want to argue anymore as it was all they had done for weeks. She suggested that they end their relationship before they ruined what was left of it. Jesse agreed and told her that he would see at the next staff meeting. Jesse then began a "friends with benefits" relationship with Paige.
In Sunglasses at Night, Ellie gave Paige her permission to date Jesse but Paige told Marco that "when Ellie gave [her] the green light to date her ex, [she'd] say she was just a touch colour-blind." Ellie, who was in her bedroom at the time, was annoyed by this and shouted that she had heard what Paige had said about her. That night, when Marco won $70 playing online poker in their house and began to celebrate loudly, Ellie irritably told him that she was trying to read Chekhov. Marco apologized for making noise.
The next day, Paige and Ellie began arguing over which of them would get Dylan's room. Ellie had had her eye on it but Dylan had given it to his sister. When Ellie suggested that they should have put it to a vote, Paige told her that she was not a big fan of democracy. Paige then asked Marco to tell her that he did not mind if she took Dylan's room while Ellie, referring to Paige as "Princess Always Gets Her Way," warned him not to let her bully or manipulate him as she had a way with men. Paige pointed out that Ellie and Jesse had broken up and asked Marco to talk some sense of her. However, Marco, who was once again playing online poker, had had enough and told them to shut up. He then said, "Iām not going to referee your catfight about the room, or Jesse, or anything! Just work it out yourselves."
That night, Marco won a great deal of money while playing poker with Spinner, Jay Hogart and his fellow mechanics and invited Ellie and Paige to join him at a club to celebrate. He made the two girls promise not to have another catfight. When he suggested that they continue partying at an after hours club called the Matador, Ellie told him that she could not since she had an essay to do. He tried to convince her to join him as "you canāt find love in an essay" and because she had to live but his efforts were unsuccessful.
In Don't You Want Me? (1), Marco complimented the appetizers that Paige made for her housewarming party and Ellie quipped, "She's just a culinary wizard, I guess. Even the Devil has her fine points." An exasperated Marco reminded her that she told Paige that he was alright if she dated Jesse. However, Ellie told him that it bugged her and she could not help it. Marco said that there were plenty more fish in the sea and suggested that they go to a club to meet guys but Ellie was not enthusiastic about doing so.
In Don't You Want Me? (2), Ellie followed Marco's advice and they went to a club. Ellie asked him if he tipped the server or if he still had to repay his father for the money that he stole. Marco responded, "Tip I did, gloomy one. I also have one for you. When boy hunting, try to look like youāre having fun." Jesse, who had broken up with Paige as they had nothing in common, then walked up to them and Ellie was delighted to see him. He told her that she looked great. The next morning, Marco knocked on Ellie's door and told her that they had class in half an hour. He opened the door and saw that she and Jesse were in bed together. She tried to hide Jesse but Marco left immediately.
Season 7
At breakfast in Standing In The Dark (2), Marco reminded Ellie that they had a study date at four, for which he had made notes. She told him that he was perfect and he said that she should tell that to Dylan as it was their anniversary and he had not contacted him. Ellie said, "Marco, the boy has checked out." An offended Marco then told her that he had to get to class. Ellie called after him and apologized, saying that she was sure that Dylan would call.
Later that day, Marco visited The Core to get a textbook from Ellie and began chatting with Eric, one of her co-workers who was also gay and had a crush on Marco. Ellie told Jesse that Marco kept "holding onto a guy who treats him like crap" and she suggested that they set him up with Marco. Jesse advised her to mind her own business. In any event, he believed that since Marco was loyal to a fault, he would never let her set him up with Eric. Ellie said that this meant that they would just have to be sneaky. When Marco returned home that evening, he found that Ellie and Jesse had invited Eric over for pizza. Ellie awkwardly told Jesse that she wanted to show him "the thing" and they left them alone. Marco was irritated that they had set him up like that. When Eric said that he thought that there was something between them, Marco told him that there was: Dylan, his boyfriend. Eric got the message and promptly left.
The next morning, Marco was still annoyed at Ellie, saying, "Hey, youāre still in the doghouse, Nash." However, she got him to admit that he was attracted to Eric and he agreed to have a cup of coffee with him on the condition that Ellie promised to back off, which she did. Although his date with Eric was awkward, Marco told Dylan that they needed to talk when he rang him later that day and they broke up.
In Love is a Battlefield, Ellie, Marco and Paige interviewed a potential new roommate, Griffin Pierce-Taylor. When Griffin said that it was quiet, clean and studious, Ellie said that this may not work as they were loud and they did their homework in front of the TV. After Griffin left, Marco seemed to think that he was the best choice. However, Ellie was not so sure, saying, "A hot roommate is a lot more pressure than regular ones. I need freedom to wear flannel." However, Paige thought that he was "incredibly cute and normal" so Ellie was outvoted.
In It's Tricky, Ellie was slightly annoyed that one of the songs on Craig's album Of Two Minds was entitled "Red-Headed For Trouble" as it was about her. After Ashley pointed out that there was another one called "Thong Girl, Wrong Girl" about Manny, Ellie realized that he had written a song about everyone that he had kissed.
The next day, Ashley played Ellie the recording of her and Jimmy's performance at the Degrassi Talent Show. Ellie told her that it was great and wished that she could have been there. Ashley told her that Jimmy's unrehearsed rhymes had gone done far better than her song and claimed that everything was easy for him. Ellie pointed out that he could not even walk. Ashley said, "Not what I meant. People thought I was Craigās sidekick, I donāt want to be Jimmyās. Does that make me a bitch?" but Ellie did not answer. Griffin came home and heard the recording. He was impressed, though more by Jimmy's contributions than Ashley's. He invited them to perform at the open jam the next night. While Ellie said that they would be busy, Ashley disagreed and told Griffin that they would both be there.
In Death or Glory (2), Ellie and Jesse were going to a Chuck Klosterman lecture together. Marco, who was feeling lonely, asked them if they had any more tickets. Jesse told him that it was free but Marco realized that they wanted to be alone. Ellie looked at him apologetically as they left.
At breakfast the following morning, Ellie and Paige realized that Marco had a crush on Griffin, with whom he had gone to a club the previous night. Marco insisted that he liked him as a friend but neither of them believed him. Ellie said, "First you hang out with Eric even though you two are going nowhere. Now, not even gay Griffin? Man, you really can't be alone, can you?" Paige said that sometimes he could be a bit intense and Ellie nodded. Marco told them that he could not help if he was a people person and Ellie jokingly suggested that he get a pet. Marco responded, "That's funny, El. Hilaire" and she apologized, promising to back off. The next day, Paige asked Marco if Ellie was still cheating on him with her boyfriend and Marco told her that she was.
In Jessie's Girl, Ellie had written an article about a tuition hike at Toronto University which was to have been the lead story on the next issue of The Core. However, Jesse pulled it when he arranged for Bill Nye to give a talk about climate change. Ellie was extremely annoyed by this but Jesse convinced her to go along with it, though she was dissatisfied that she was relegated to writing the horoscopes. Bill Nye had to cancel and the paper was left without a lead story. Although Jesse suggested publishing Ellie's story, she used her relationship with her mentor Caitlin to get the famous journalist to give a talk on her newly released environmental film Storm of Controversy. Jesse was thrilled that he would get the chance to interview Caitlin, though she informed him that she wanted Ellie to conduct the Q&A due to their history together. Jesse was extremely annoyed by this so, to appease him, Ellie gave him her ticket to the Dean's Ball that night.
In her house, Ellie was having difficulty preparing her notes for the interview the next day as Griffin was having a party. She drank a Margarita, which caused Marco to become concerned due to her mother's alcoholism. Ellie told him that her mother had been sober for 17 months and, in any event, she was not her mother. As the party became even noisier, Ellie decided to do her work in The Core. When she arrived at the office, she was shocked to find Jesse and Caitlin having sex. The next morning, Jesse tried to apologise to her but she said that she wanted to break up. After he managed to manipulate her into continuing their relationship, she told him that she was going to quit the paper as she did not want people talking about them. As Paige helped her to pick out an outfit for the interview, she confided in her that Jesse and Caitlin had hooked up. When Paige commented that she did not know why either of them had dated Jesse, Ellie told her that she was still with Jesse but had quit The Core. Paige thought that this was a very bad idea and that there were times when she had to choose her professional career over her love life as the interview with Caitlin was a great opportunity for her.
At the reception, Ellie drank three glasses of wine and became drunk. During the interview, she mentioned that Caitlin had been raising controversy while traveling through Canada, giving Jesse a pointed look as she said it. She then asked Caitlin if the responsible consumption that she encouraged in the film applied to alcohol consumption. Both Caitlin and the audience were confused by the question since it had nothing to do with climate change. As Caitlin tried to cover, Ellie bluntly asked, "Why did you hook up with Jesse? Why?" She then asked him, "And how was it, Jesse? Was it worth it?" Before waiting for an answer, she called Caitlin a slut and stormed out.
At breakfast the next morning, Ellie was drinking coffee and asked Marco to lower his voice. He realized that she was hungover and reminded her that they had talked about her inability to handle alcohol. Caitlin then entered and demanded an explanation for why she had humiliated her in public. Ellie revealed that Jesse was her boyfriend. Caitlin had no idea and apologized, saying that she would have never slept with Jesse if she had known. Caitlin was astonished when Ellie said that she had quit The Core to save her relationship with Jesse. She told Ellie that she had the potential to become a great journalist and not to let a "freshman romance" stand in the way of her future. Ellie followed her advice and returned to The Core. Jesse was surprised to see her there and said, "Well, I'm just glad you're back, Frosh, and I promise I will never cheat on you again." Ellie irritably responded, "I'm back at The Core, not with you...And from now on, call me 'Ellie.'" A shamefaced Jesse sat down at his desk as Ellie smirked slightly.
After Paige decided to quit her job as Andrea's assistant in Pass the Dutchie, she made breakfast for Ellie and Marco. She told them that she was taking a personal day and intended to spend the day with her roommates. However, Marco told her that he and Ellie had a group meeting for their historiography project. When Paige said that she was Marco and Ellie's closest friend, Ellie responded, "Oh, actually, I don't really like you." Paige ignored this barb and served them maple bacon. She managed to convince Marco and Ellie to go with her to the cinema. When she got a call before the film, they were concerned that she would be fired if she did not go to work but Paige told them that she would love that.
The next day, Paige returned home to find Marco and Ellie studying and told them that she intended to take another personal day. She wanted to spend the day with them and rented three DVDs for each of their personal tastes. While Paige was not looking, Ellie gave Marco that the "she's crazy" gesture. Marco managed to convince Paige that she needed to return to work.
In Owner of a Lonely Heart, Ellie was having a hard time getting over Jesse. While at a club, she complained to Marco that he was acting as if nothing had happened between them as he was grinning when she walked into The Core. Ellie realized that he was not listening and asked him to buy her a calamari. As he did not have any money, she was forced to pay for it herself.
The next day, they went clothes shopping and she again discussed Jesse with Marco. She was annoyed that he was now on Facebook and wanted "random play." When Marco mentioned that he was going to meet Devon at the cabaret that night, Ellie believed that he was inviting her to come with him and complained that she had nothing to war. Marco then told her that he wanted to go by himself. Ellie realized that her constant talk about Jesse meant that she had not noticed that Marco was looking for a new boyfriend and apologized, telling him that it was alright if he went to the cabaret without her. After Marco was again short of money, Ellie paid for his new clothes with her credit card.
The next day, Marco told Ellie and Griffin that he had gone on another date with Eric. Ellie was glad to hear it but Marco said that it was "lame," which amused Griffin. He then asked them if he could borrow some more money. Griffin told him that he was broke himself while Ellie said that she would add it to his tab along with clothes. She told Marco that she and Griffin were studying and he should try it himself. When Marco accused her of being passive aggressive, she asked him why Devon was worth going broke over. Marco said that he wanted to have fun and asked what so wrong with that. Ellie responded, "Is using your old friends to live the high life with your new ones wrong? Tough call." Marco then became annoyed and left.
Several days later at breakfast, Ellie told Marco that she had not heard him come in the previous night and asked how Devon was. He told her that there was no Devon anymore. She jokingly asked him whether he had run out of people to mooch money from or if his sugar daddy had finally dumped him. Marco snapped, "Enough with the sarcasm, okay?" He then apologized and told her that Devon had set him up one of his clients, who was going to give him $300 for sex, the previous night. This was overheard by Griffin, who promptly left. Ellie began to worry that Marco had had sex with him. He assured her that he did not but admitted that he had thought about it. He asked what this made him and Ellie said, "Confused but fortunately not a prostitute." When Ellie wondered what Marco had been looking for, he told her that he did not know. She then reminded him that there were plenty of nice gay guys in university. Marco agreed with this, saying that some of them were pretty cool despite their positive feelings towards jazz. Ellie said that she would make him like Eric but he told her that it would not be too hard since Eric had gotten him a job at the Campus Club as a busboy. He promised to give Ellie his first paycheque. He confided in her that he wanted to feel happy, confident and sexy. She told him that money could not buy those feelings.
In Talking in Your Sleep, Ellie was annoyed at Paige because her singing had woken her up. Paige attempted to recruit Ellie and Marco to help her to paint her room. Although they were initially reluctant as they hated painting, Griffin convinced them to do so. Ellie was shocked when Griffin said, "Paige, are we still on for the bed later?" and almost spit out her coffee. After Griffin left, Ellie said, "Roommate etiquette? You didn't even check with us." Paige then told her to relax and explained that they were going to Ikea as he was "helping her get in bed." Marco and Ellie were both amused by her Freudian slip.
Later that night, Ellie, Marco, Paige and Griffin painted Paige's room truffle mint. In spite of her initial lack of enthusiasm, Ellie had fun. She and Marco painted each other's faces, as did Paige and Griffin. After two hours, however, Ellie had enough and asked if they could finish. Paige told her that that was fine and thanked her for her help.
The morning after Paige and Griffin had sex, they were amused when they heard Marco telling Ellie that she would be late and would not get a good seat. Ellie told him that it was linguistics class, not a movie. Marco gave her a coffee mug and her bag before she left, laughing at his behavior. After Paige and Marco found out that Griffin was HIV positive, they sent Ellie an emergency text a few minutes before class and informed her of his condition. Ellie was astonished and, although Marco reminded her that she could not catch HIV from drinking from the same orange juice carton, she still found it "disturbing." Paige told her that she could relate to her concerns as she had slept with him. Ellie asked her if she had used protection. Paige assured her that she had but it was never 100% reliable and Griffin, even though he had used a condom, had taken a risk with her life.
In Don't Stop Believin', Ellie went speed dating on an assignment for The Core but did not enjoy the experience. Marco assured that she would get all the plum assignments when she became editor of the paper but Ellie told him that the job was Eric's. Paige then informed them that her father Jeff Michalchuk had bought her a condo but she had to move out by the end of the month. Ellie was annoyed as they were planning to resign the lease and now needed a new roommate. Marco said that they would find someone as long as Ellie did not leave him. She looked at him sympathetically and said, "Would I do that?"
The next day at The Core, Ellie excitedly told Marco that Jesse had placed her name on the shortlist to become editor-in-chief for the next year. While she was certain that Eric would get the position, she was still glad as it meant that she had a good shot at becoming assistant editor. Marco then asked Ellie if she would be okay with the idea of living with her future boss as he was thinking about asking Eric to move in with them. Ellie said that she had no problem with it as she loved Eric and then left for more speed dating.
At a jazz club that night, Marco invited Eric to live with them but admitted that part of the reason was that he and Ellie did not want to split up as they had been best friends since Grade 9. Eric, who said that Marco and Ellie were attached at the hip, told Marco that it was great that he had a nice straight girlfriend but he did not want to ruin their relationship by moving too fast.
Marco returned home and was surprised to find Ellie there. She told him that the second date ended as quickly as the first as her date only waited ten minutes before showing her his hunting trophies. Marco then informed her that Eric had declined his offer to move in with them. Ellie was disappointed but said that they would go on Craigslist to find a roommate. Marco suggested that they should think about going their separate ways but Ellie said, "But I don't want to give this place up...or give you up." As there was a blackout, Ellie and Marco studied in the dark for their psychiatry exam. Ellie asked Marco to define the id, ego and superego. Marco could not do so but they were interrupted by Paige and Griffin, who arrived home with ice cream. The four of them then laughed, talked and played charades for hours.
After Paige and Griffin left to have sex, Ellie and Marco went upstairs. Ellie began to pet Marco's rabbit Hip Hop and remarked that they would have to arrange visitation rights as the rabbit loved her. Marco told her that Hip Hop would miss him only as much as he would. Ellie said that she loved him and she always would, even if they were not leaving together. When Marco lamented that it could be one of their last nights living together, she responded that she could not imagine him not being in the next room. He then suggested that they should buy their dream two bedroom apartment even if they had to live on rabbit food to afford it. Ellie wished him goodnight and they kissed on the lips. As she got up to leave, he pulled her back down and asked her to stay. She said goodnight and kissed him again. However, it turned into a passionate kiss and they lay down on the bed together. The next morning, Marco woke up in bed with the seemingly naked Ellie. He realized that it was 20 minutes until their exam and rushed off. Before he did, Ellie joked that they should get a one bedroom apartment instead.
After the exam, Paige was cooking bacon from the freezer which had thawed due to the blackout. She could tell that there was some tension between them and asked if they had had an awkward exam. Ellie took some of her bacon and asked that if you had never had bacon before and then almost shared it with their best friend, should you want to talk about it. Marco then said that if you had never thought about bacon that way before, you might be a little too confused to talk about it. Ellie told him that she was going to the staff announcement at The Core to wish Eric look. Marco tried to apologize but she left before he could do so. Paige realized that something was going on and Marco explained that he and Ellie had almost had sex.
Ellie and Marco met Eric at The Core and she once again invited him to live with them. He agreed, though he said to Marco that it might be awkward for him to have his boyfriend and his best friend living under the same roof. Over a webcam, Jesse announced that Ellie was the new editor-in-chief of The Core. Ellie was shocked and delighted while Eric was extremely upset. At Marco's insistence, Ellie discussed the situation. She reflected that it had not gone the way that they expected but that The Core would be nothing without Eric, offering him the assistant editorship. An insulted Eric lashes out on him claiming that it had gone exactly the way that she expected and implied that she got the position because she had slept with Jesse. Ellie was extremely offended by this. After Eric stormed out, Marco followed him, saying to Ellie that he had to as he was his boyfriend.
Later that night at their house, Marco told Ellie that he had spent two hours talking Eric down off a ledge as he felt terrible about what he had said to her. Ellie then said, "It's a good thing that my best friend defended me. Oh, oh no wait, you totally didn't!" Marco told her that he could not always be her knight in shining armor as they were just friends, nothing more. Ellie said, "WHOA! Marco, we just kissed!" and that it was not a big deal. She demonstrated this by kissing Paige, who did not enjoy the experience. Ellie said, "Yeah, that was weird and bacon-y?" Marco countered that it was a big deal as they had nearly had sex. She asked why it was a crisis. Marco said that it because he almost did not stop and part of him did not want to. Ellie realized that part of her did not want him to stop either. Marco said that they were totally dependent on each other for everything, even intimacy, and it was hurting not only their relationship with each other but their relationships with other people. Ellie came to the realization that he was right and said, "Then I guess we're moving out" before beginning to cry.
When it came time for them to move out, Ellie offered a mug with Christmas dogs on it to Paige, who said that it was against everything that she stood for. Ellie could not believe that she would not hear Paige's daily fashion tips anymore while Paige could not believe that they had lived together for a year without a murder. Ellie joked, "There's still time." Marco entered and lamented that they would grow apart and never see each other again. Paige told him to get a grip. He said that it was a bad idea but Ellie commented that she had thought about it and believed that a little distance would do their friendship good. Paige remarked that only Marco could make the right decision and then freak out about it. Marco told them that this was his point and asked them who would talk him down from his neurotic fits. Ellie reminded him that they had phones. Marco told them to make sure that they were always charged. He then said, "I love you, guys" and gave them a hug.
Season 8
In Degrassi Goes Hollywood, Ellie was still working at The Core as its editor. Nina invited her to join the rest of the reporters for their trip to Whistler for winter break but Ellie declined as she had too much work to do. By this time, her relationship with Nina had seemingly improved substantially. Marco then entered and told Ellie that Paige, who had been cast as Trixie in Jason Mewes' film Mewesical High, had bought plane tickets to Los Angeles for them as she wanted her friends there to support her. However, Ellie said that she had to prepare the next issue of the paper. The phone in the office rang and it was answered by Nina, who told Ellie that it was her mother who was at the hospital. Marco asked if everything was okay but Ellie said that she volunteered there. She asked Nina to tell her mother that she would call her back. After looking at the photograph of herself and her father on her desk, Ellie said that she would do so from the airport. Marco was very excited that she would be joining him and Paige in Hollywood. In spite of his concerns to the contrary, Marco and Ellie remained the best of friends after moving out of their apartment.
As they waited for Paige in LAX, Marco asked Ellie which celebrities that she thought that they should add to their posse and suggested Taylor Kitsch. However, Ellie was distracted by the sight of a soldier who had returned home and was playing with his young daughter. She began to cry. Marco was concerned but she told him that the dry LA air was making her eyes water. Paige then arrived and gave them both a hug. She said that she had a limo waiting for them and began to explore LA, including the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Both Ellie and Marco were extremely impressed by the mansion that the film studio had rented for Paige while she was working on the film. Ellie was still surprised that Paige had gotten the part, saying that she did not know that Paige could even act. Paige sarcastically thanked her for the support.
The next day, Paige was having difficulty learning her lines for Mewesical High. She commented that she would love to have some bacon and maple syrup from the Canadian Shop and Ellie volunteered to buy it for her while she and Marco ran lines. While searching for the store, Ellie ran into Craig, who was talking to Pete Wentz and Cassadee Pope, on the street. They were delighted to see each other and hugged. He said that he could not believe that she was in LA while she responded that she could not believe that he was eating Ketchup Chips with Pete Wentz. Craig introduced the musicians to his friend. Pete told Ellie that Craig had introduced them to Ketchup Chips and now they could not go on tour without them. Craig asked her why she had not let him know that she was in Los Angeles and she explained that they had assumed that he would be on tour, adding that she and Marco were visiting Paige. He invited the three of them to a club called the Highland Grouse where he would be performing that night and gave her a brochure with the relevant information. She told him that he looked good and he said that he had been clean and sober for a year. Pete and Cassadee exchanged an awkward look as they were unaware of Craig's addiction. Craig said that they had to leave to perform a sound check and expressed the hope that he would see the three of them at the club that night. Ellie joked that they would be there if they could tear themselves away from the hustle and bustle of Hollywood. Somewhat embarrassed, she told Pete and Cassadee that it was nice to meet them. By this time, Ellie had seemingly forgiven Craig for manipulating her in an attempt to continue his drug use and they were back in contact as she was aware that he was living in Los Angeles.
While at the soundstage with Paige, Marco was surprised to receive a call from Ellie's mother. When she returned to the mansion, an excited Ellie was about to tell Marco that she had met Craig but he mentioned that her mother had phoned him as Ellie had not been answering her cell phone. Mrs. Nash had informed Marco that her husband was back from Afghanistan and in hospital but that Ellie had not been to visit him yet. Ellie said that she did not want to talk about it. Marco warned her that she could not simply avoid it and she responded, "Watch me" before storming out. He was extremely concerned and asked Paige to speak to Ellie about it but Paige instead went to a Hollywood party. Ellie went to the Highland Grouse and was thrilled to see Craig performing on stage. During a break in his set, he told her that he was glad that she had come. He inquired as to where Marco and Paige were. Ellie claimed that they sent their love and explained that Paige had stuff to do while she and Marco had a fight which she was not in the mood to talk about. She told him that she was in the mood for relaxing but that was impossible to do at Paige's mansion. Craig invited her to crash with him. Ellie did not think that it was a good idea given their track record but Craig assured her that they were both in different places. He said that his condo was right on the beach and that it would provide her with a total escape from reality, which was exactly what Ellie wanted.
Shortly afterwards, Ellie returned to the mansion and began packing her things. Marco assumed that she was going home to Toronto but she told him that she had met Craig and was going to stay with him. Marco pointed out that it was a bad idea to replace one drama in her life with another. She insisted that there was no drama between herself and Craig. Marco stated that he still had not forgiven Craig for the last time and that Craig was bad news for girls, especially her. Ellie claimed that she was over him and she knew that she did not need another relationship. When Marco asked her what she did need, she said, "A friend who doesn't judge me." Marco promised not to mention her father but believed that Ellie would severely regret it if she did not go to visit him. Ellie ignored his advice and sarcastically told him to have fun with the "movie crowd."
In Craig's apartment the next morning, he made coffee for himself and Ellie. She had seemingly told him about Jesse's affair as he said, "I still can't believe your ex slept with Caitlin." They both found it disgusting. Ellie said that she should get out of his way as he probably had to get to the studio but he countered that he had the whole day planned out for them. Craig then played a song that he had written for Ellie while in rehab called "Rescue You," in which he credited her with helping him to realise that he had a drug problem. They spent the day together exploring LA and Ellie's strong feelings for him returned. While they played in the water, Craig looked after Ellie longingly as she walked in front of him. She asked him what had happened with Ashley and he explained that they went on tour in Europe and she had stayed there. On the beach, Ellie confided in him that, if she could swim, she would wade out as far as she could go so she could get away from it all. She thanked him for the "most amazing day" and for the song and then placed her head on his shoulder as they looked out at the water. Ellie hoped that they would finally be able to start a relationship.
Later that evening, they returned to Craig's apartment and discussed seeing a man whom Ellie believed was Johnny Depp. Craig pointed out that Depp lived in France and he told Ellie that he had missed her a great deal. They were overheard by a young woman in the apartment who had just come out of the shower. Craig kissed her and introduced her to Ellie as his girlfriend Yvette, who had returned from a modelling gig in Maui. Ellie was shocked and upset as Craig had never previously mentioned her. Yvette, who had heard all about Ellie, invited her to stay for dinner as she had just ordered sushi and there was plenty for the three of them. After Yvette went to put some clothes on, Craig and Ellie exchanged an awkward look. At dinner, Craig and Yvette told Ellie that they first met during one of his concerts. He was opening for Fall Out Boy and pulled her up on stage. Yvette described it as "such a rock star move." She asked Ellie questions about what Craig was like in high school. Ellie jokingly told her that he was a total nerd and could not get a date to save his life. However, she admitted that he was awesome and that any girl would be lucky to have him. Yvette said that nothing had changed and kissed Craig, leading an upset Ellie to leave their apartment. She made up the excuse that Marco had called, upset that he had just missed Taylor Kitsch at the Coffee Bean. Craig followed her into the corridor and said that he should have told her about Yvette. Ellie told him that he was trying to be a good friend and she interpreted it as a romantic overture again. He assured her that he had not meant to give her the wrong idea and that he was just so happy to see her. She said that she would just have to stop thinking that her feelings for him would ever be requited. After a long pause, an upset looking Craig said, "I had a really great time today." Ellie left and, while walking on the beach, began to cry.
The next morning, she told Marco that Craig's girlfriend had returned and she wanted to give them some space. When he asked her if she was okay with that, she said that she was going to read by the pool. At Paige's fake 18th birthday party that afternoon, she began to drink. Mrs. Nash called Paige's cell phone and Paige gave it to Ellie, who was hesitant to accept it. Ellie asked her mother how everything was at home but Mrs. Nash accused her of not caring and angrily hung up the phone. Ellie then started to drink from a bottle of vodka. Craig approached her and said that they needed to talk. He noticed that she had been crying and the bottle in her hand and asked her if she was okay. After she demanded to know what he was doing at the party, Craig said, "So I have this life in LA. It's pretty perfect: dream job, dream apartment, great girlfriend...And all of a sudden, you show up and suddenly everything doesn't seem so perfect anymore." As she was drunk, Ellie misunderstood his attempt to tell her that he had feelings for her and responded, "'Cause that's, that's what I do. Yeah, um, I'm the one who messes up people's lives." Craig attempted to tell her that she had taken him up wrong but she advised him to stay away from her as he would be better off. He attempted to follow her but was stopped by Marco. He assured him that he did not mean to upset her and wanted to apologize but Marco said that Ellie was messed up and had far more serious things in her life to deal with. They began to struggle and fell into the pool. They then realized that Ellie had left.
On the beach, an extremely upset Ellie began pacing back and forth. After dropping her shawl and bottle of vodka, she began to wade into the sea in an attempt to commit suicide. After several minutes, Craig and Marco arrived and realized what she was doing. However, they were able to rescue her. They then brought her back to Craig's apartment. Yvette was not present. Marco thanked Craig for his help in saving Ellie. Craig said that he would take care of Ellie and he and Marco hugged, having seemingly repaired their strained friendship. After Marco left, Craig sat down beside Ellie, who was resting on his couch. She apologized for her behavior the previous night but he told her that sleep was probably the best thing for her at the moment. She said that she did not know what she was thinking as she was not trying to kill herself. Craig mentioned that Marco had told him about her father being in the hospital. When she asked Craig's advice as to whether she should go see him, Craig said that she should do so when she was ready. Ellie began to cry and explained that she had always been able to fix things like her mother's alcoholism and Craig's own drug addiction but her father was suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder from having watched his soldiers die and she knew that she could not fix that. Craig said, "No one expects you to...Look, after you sleep, I'll make you some eggs and if you survive that, we'll take the next step, okay?" Ellie nodded and Craig began to stroke her hair.
The next day, Ellie decided to return to Toronto and Craig went with her to LAX. They stood together awkwardly for a little while before Ellie said that she should probably just go as security could take a while. She thanked him again for all of his help and said that he had really come through for her. He said that they would "call it even" because of her help with his drug problem and they hugged. As Ellie made her way to the security check-in, Craig walked in the opposite direction and appeared to be upset that she was leaving. After several seconds, both Craig and Ellie turned back around and ran to each other. They hugged again and then kissed passionately. Ellie shook her head slightly and said wistfully, "We'll always have LA, right?" Craig responded, "Someday, maybe," indicating that they may embark on a relationship in the future. Before she left, Ellie gave Craig one final kiss. He was very sad to see her go.
With Marco by her side, she returned home to see her father in the hospital. She said, "Hey Daddy" and began to cry profusely as she hugged him tightly.

Style
Ellie was introduced in season 2 as a 9th grader with a unique sense of style. Not really one for blending in, her clothing was severe, and included mesh tops, patent leather clothing adorned with zippers, plaid skirts, and heavy boots. She was fond of heavy makeup and dark eyeliner, black nail polish, and studded leather accessories such as belts, wristbands, and chokers. Her hair was usually worn up in a ponytail or pigtails, and was often braided, curled, and dyed coloured streaks. She also had a total of piercings in her ears and navel.
Although Ellie was unapologetic about her look, her fashion choices were also a source of some insecurity for her when she developed a crush on her popular classmate, Marco. However, upon finding out that Marco was attracted to "cool, alternative girls", Ellie's fears of being rejected by him subsided, and the two pursued a relationship.
Ellie's style stayed mostly consistent as she entered grade 10. She maintained her love of punk and goth-inspired attire and accessories, and her wardrobe consisted solely of black, red, and white clothes. The cutting habit she developed also forced her to keep her arms covered with long-sleeved shirts in an effort to hide the self-inflicted cuts on her arms. She straightened her hair and refrained from dying it, keeping it tied up in an edgy ponytail, or in a pair of braided pigtails. She used eyeshadow more sparingly than she did the year before, instead opting to keep her eyes lined in harsh black eyeliner. The depression she struggled with as a result of her cutting, her mother's alcoholism, her father's absence, and her closeted ex-boyfriend coming out was reflected in her style, which was overall darker than it was the past year.
Her signature style remained intact in season 4. However, at this time, Ellie gradually began wearing fewer accessories, and wore her hair down more frequently. Even though her attire wasn't as intense and punk-stylish, it was more a bit post-modern grunge.
The abrasive goth appearance she had been wearing throughout grade 10 evolved into a sexier, somewhat vampy look as she started grade 11.
Her senior year saw a greater break from the look she wore throughout most of high school. With the departure of her best friend Ashley, Ellie began spending more time with Ashley's musician boyfriend Craig. However, Ellie gradually began developing feelings for him, and subsequently started wearing more rocker-inspired clothing, which was derivative of Craig's own style. She abandoned her mesh tops and lolita goth skirts in favor of vintage wash t-shirts, jeans, and leather jackets. Ellie also began wearing her hair down in loose, lovely waves. Her friendship with Craig allowed her to break free from her status as an "outsider" at school, and make a wider variety of friends. This, along with her rekindled relationship with her mother, led Ellie to develop a more positive outlook on life, which was reflected in her new style.

Ellie: "Points?"
Ashley: "You know what I mean."
Ellie: "No, I don't. Ash, you're my friend. You don't need a piercing to impress me." - Drive - Ellie: "I've never liked anyone like this before. It's weird."
Ashley: "It's love."
Ellie: "It's not your business. Shut up." - Karma Chameleon - "It's a psycho girl thing. Emphasis on psycho." - Take On Me
- Ashley: (referring to Manny) "Hey Ellie, do you smell something?"
Ellie: "I think it's the peculiar smell of a boyfriend thief." - Accidents Will Happen (1) - Paige: "Morning, Ellie."
Ellie: "Hey Paige. Great outfit!"
Paige: "New year, new look, new Paige."
Alex: "Ellie, just because Princess Prissy talks to you doesn't mean you have to answer."
Paige: "I'm going, I'm going." - Ghost in the Machine (1) - Ellie: "It's open."
Caroline: "It's the middle of the night, Ellie. There's no emergency?"
Ellie: "I had to be sure of something."
Caroline: "Sure of what?"
Ellie: "That you could come over. That you were sober. You weren't drunk."
Caroline: "You woke me as a test?!"
Ellie: "I wrote a letter to Mr. Martin. It says I'm giving two months notice."
Caroline: "Oh, so you're coming home!"
Ellie: "I...I said I wrote it, Mom. I haven't given it to him. Not yet."
Caroline: "But you're going to?"
Ellie: "No more drinking?"
Caroline: "The best I can do is try. Day by day. Try."
Ellie: "Then promise me you'll try and make it easy for me to trust you."
Caroline: "Come home, Ellie. I'm tired of being alone."
Ellie: "Yeah. Me too." - Queen of Hearts - Alex: "My ex, formerly known as Jay Hogart, screwed around with every girl at this school. It's not a gay thing. Promiscuity, it's a guy thing."
Craig: "Hey. Didn't I hear that you clocked Amy for being equally trampy?
Ellie: "Oh and how's Ash, Craig? Or are you back with Manny? It's hard to tell, especially when you secretly dated them at the same time."
Craig: "Let's just call it a people thing."
Ellie: "Letās call it a choice. Monogamy wow, what a difficult concept." - Moonlight Desires - Ellie: (nervously) "Um, can you take your hand off my knee?"
Jason Mewes: "What? Uh, what? Oh. What does that doin' there? Naughty. Naughty you." - Goin' Down the Road (2) - Craig: "Stop staring."
Ellie: "Stop being an ass."
Craig: "Do you know how humiliating it was, to find out in public, that my girlfriend dumped me by e-mail?"
Ellie: "Oh! Oh you're forgetting on your birthday, that's a pretty good detail too. Ashley wanted to tell you herself, she wanted to wait 'till the time was right, she was... concerned."
Craig: "That I'd go off my meds and go all crazy? I'm fine, you know I'm fine, we hung out all summer. And I don't need you protecting me."
Ellie: "All this anger is for Ashley. Buy a ticket, go to London, and freak on her there." - Venus (2) - (Ellie walks into Craig's garage where he is playing his guitar)
Craig: "You here to see Marco? He's not here yet."
Ellie: "I'm here to see you."
(Craig resumes playing his guitar)
Ellie: "Craig! Craig! We hung out all summer and I know you're okay now and it was so, so stupid of me to try and protect you. I should have just told you. Sorry."
Craig: "Cool."
Ellie: "That's it?"
Craig: "That's it."
(Craig turns around)
Craig: "Oy. I can feel them, you know. Your eyes burning a hole in my back."
(He turns back around)
Craig: "I'm sorry, too. I overreacted, okay? So there. Better?"
Ellie: "Not really."
Craig: "So, what do we do?"
Ellie: "Well, I heard you're in between drummers."
Craig: "You heard right. Know any?"
Ellie: "I happen to be in between bands. Maybe I should sit in?"
Craig: "I got to warn you, El. We suck, huge."
Ellie: "Oldest rule of music, Craig. Band's only as good as its drummer."
(She plays the drums very impressively)
Craig: "Okay, you'll fit in fine." - Venus (2) - Craig: "Ellie, wait! What the hell's going on?"
Ellie: "You tell me! You're the one who called her, you're the one who sat there drooling over her like you were some perv." (Ellie turns and walks away, then turns around again) "And this? This isn't me. I don't dress up."
Craig: "I'm... flattered?"
Ellie: "Don't be! This, this is for the gig. This doesn't mean anything."
Craig: "Ellie. We do group together. You've seen me down in the gutter. Lower than low. Lower than I want anyone else to see me. That's why you're my friend. My really good friend."
Ellie: "So glad I can be there for you."
(She begins to walk away again)
Craig: "Ellie!"
Ellie: "Bye. See you in group!" - Weddings, Parties, Anything - Ellie: "Look, um, the band's kinda getting in the way of stuff and I'm gonna have to quit."
Craig: "Oh, ha. You're funny. You are joking, right?"
Ellie: "No, no, I'm tired of the band... and you, Craig. You're kind of annoying and you kind of smell."
Craig: "You're gonna pay for that, Nash!" - Bizarre Love Triangle - (Craig is playing his guitar in his garage)
Ellie: "New song? I like it, just like that. You know it doesn't even need lyrics."
Craig: "It's not really a song then, is it?"
Ellie: "Sometimes you don't need all the extra stuff. Sometimes simpler is better."
Craig: "I'm not a solo act."
Ellie: "But you could be."
Craig: "I don't care. This isn't about me. This is about the band. Ellie, we were gonna do this together. Cut our own album, sold out shows, a Juno, a Grammy..."
Ellie: "Craig, I can't drum."
Craig: "Yes, you can!"
Ellie: "No, I can't and Marco's not much better on bass and Jimmy wants to paint. Leo...God, face it, he only wanted you. We were just...excess baggage. Craig, I really think you should go to the Showcase tonight just like this. You and your guitar. I really think you could win."
Craig: "Okay, let's say I do play the Showcase and I do win. That means leaving. What about Manny or Joey or Angie?"
(Ellie shakes her head)
Ellie: "Don't worry about them. They'll manage. They'll be fine."
Craig: "What about you?"
Ellie: (hesitates) "I'll wave goodbye 'cause I have to...Craig, go to that club and knock them dead. For all of us." - Together Forever - Ellie: "I'm such a stupid klutz."
Jimmy: "You're not a klutz at all. You're perfect." - Man in the Mirror - Ellie: "Okay, I cannot believe Friendship Club brainwashed Spinner!"
Jimmy: "There's not much brain to wash." - I Against I - "Question, who's still bitter over last year? Oh! Marco Del Rossi!" - Total Eclipse Of The Heart
- Jimmy: "Ellie, hi."
Ellie: "What's up?"
Jimmy: "You look great. I mean you always look great, but tonight you look great!"
Ellie: "Oh hey I was just wondering. How do I look? Could it maybe be great?"
(Jimmy laughs nervously)
Jimmy: "Um, look you've become one of my best friends, right and you've opened my eyes to a lot of things. I wanted to know if maybe we could talk about taking it to the next level..."
(Ellie doesn't say anything)
Jimmy: "But you don't."
Ellie: "Jimmy, I'm sorry...I--"
Jimmy: "Donāt be. Itās not completely unexpected. Iām gonna go, okay?" - High Fidelity (2) - Ashley: (referring to Manny) "Hey Ellie, do you smell something?"
Ellie: "I think it's the peculiar smell of a boyfriend thief." - Accidents Will Happen (1) - Ashley: (referring to Jesse) "So what's he like?"
Ellie: "Cute, funny, um sexy, smart, intimidatingly so. I don't know what he sees in me."
Ashley: "Oh come on, El."
Ellie: "Ash, he's 22 with tons of experience. I've only had two boyfriends. One was Marco...gay and the other was Sean. We never...you know."
Ashley: "You think he wants to?"
Ellie: "Um, he's a guy."
Ashley: "Yeah, good point. So have you know, talked about uh doing it?"
Ellie: "Can we not say doing it? And no. No, we haven't talked about it. Not yet. I mean I find it a little embarrassing and by a little, I mean hugely."
Ashley: "Well, if you can't talk about it, you should at least be prepared in case, you know, it just happens."
Ellie: "I hate when you're right."
Ashley: "Lucky for you there's a health clinic at the university." - Eyes Without a Face (2) - Jesse: "Uh, next pitch. Ellie?"
Ellie: "Uh, okay. Um, as most of you know and love to bug me about, I'm a first year and I'm a little fascinated by that office down the hall."
Nina: "The sexual health office?"
Ellie: "Um, so following in the great though fictional steps of Carrie Bradshaw, I'd like to pitch a series on sexual health on campus."
(Everyone starts laughing)
Jesse: "Pass. Next?"
Ellie: "Hang on, I've done research."
Jesse: "It's okay. We get it. Next."
Ellie: "I, I just um I think it's important that, that we're all informed about sex."
Jesse: "Our readers are informed, Frosh."
Ellie: "But..."
Jesse: "It's dead, okay? Stop pitching it. Freddie, what do you got?" - Eyes Without a Face (2) - Ellie: "I want to resign from the paper and us, so goodbye."
Jesse: "Whoa, whoa, whoa. Can't we discuss this?"
Ellie: "Jesse, I just made a complete ass of myself and you sat there with Nina and watched."
Jesse: "No, I did not. I was trying to help you. Why do you think I was trying to stop you? You just keep going and going and going."
Ellie: "I do have that tendency."
Jesse: "What were you doing with all that stuff anyway? I mean, how much birth control do you need?"
Ellie: "Jesse, don't. Itās not funny at all."
Jesse: "You know you're, uh, cute when you're mortified."
Ellie: "Well, remind me to mortify myself more often."
Jesse: "Remind me we need to have a talk about us, where we're going. That is, if there still is an us."
Ellie: "Resignation cancelled."
Jesse: "Good 'cause I wasn't going to accept it anyway. You're stuck with me, Frosh, for a long time I hope."
(They kiss) - Eyes Without a Face (2) - Ellie: "Sorry...about bringing Craig to the interview. It was unprofessional."
Jesse: "That's okay. Where is Craig anyway? Thought you'd be interviewing him."
Ellie: "He bailed on me. Went off to party with Little Miss Manny."
Jesse: "Probably jonesing for coke."
Ellie: "Nice."
Jesse: "Look my best friend used to be an addict, okay? I can see the signs pretty clearly."
Ellie: "You can't see anything clearly. Not when it comes to Craig. Jealous much?"
Jesse: "I'm not jealous of some failed singer-songwriter loser that you're still crushing on. It's pathetic."
Ellie: "That is wrong on so many levels."
Jesse: "You know what's really wrong? The fact that Craig keeps crapping on you and you keep going back for more!" - What's It Feel Like to Be a Ghost? (2) - Ellie: "Question of the evening: who's more pathetic, you for lying to me about the drugs or me for believing you?"
Craig: "Is that a trick question?"
Ellie: "This is funny?"
(She starts to leave)
Craig: "Don't be mad, please."
Ellie: "Just tell me the truth for once."
Craig: "Okay. I, I started in Vancouver, but I'm not an addict."
Ellie: "Drug clichƩ number one."
Craig: "I can stop, Ellie. Anytime I want."
Ellie: "Drug clichƩ number two."
Craig: "Look, what do you want me to say? That I've got a problem? Yeah I have a problem. Great. I said it. What now?"
Ellie: "You used to come to group therapy with me, remember? Dr. Kendrick is great. He can help you so just come tomorrow, okay?"
Craig: "If you promise to stop being mad at me." - What's It Feel Like to Be a Ghost? (2) - Craig: "Ellie, hi. About group therapy, listen, uh, something came up."
(She starts rifling through his jacket)
Craig: "Hey! Hey what are you doing?"
(She pulls out the coke)
Ellie: "Either you stop now or I call Joey and tell him about this and this, this will all end. The touring, the music career, finished."
Craig: "C'mon, why would you do that to me? Just leave me alone, alright?"
Ellie: "I can't."
Craig: "Why not?"
Ellie: "Because."
Craig: "Because why?"
Ellie: "You know why, Craig. Um, you know, so don't make me say it."
(Craig starts kissing Ellie)
Craig: "I love you, Ellie."
Ellie: "I love you too."
(They kiss again)
Craig: "So don't make me stop. Please. I need it. Don't call Joey."
(Ellie angrily pushes him away from her)
Ellie: "You bastard! How could, how could you play with me like that?"
Craig: "Ellie, I'm, I'm sorry. What do you want me to say?"
(Ellie starts to cry)
Ellie: "Nothing. It's all gonna be lies. You'll say whatever it takes to get your hands on this, won't you?! God!" - What's It Feel Like to Be a Ghost? (2) - Craig: "Ellie, I know I messed up, badly. But I am glad for one thing; I was finally able to be honest with you. I meant what I said, and I felt that way for a long, long time."
Ellie: "No, just donāt. Don't, just...it's beside the point. You need help."
Craig: "I know. I know. I'm going to the rehab or whatever, but when I get out maybe we could..."
Ellie: "Goodbye, Craig." - What's It Feel Like to Be a Ghost? (2) - Ellie: (referring to Craig) "Oh, so everyone he kisses is a song title now?" - It's Tricky
- Jesse: "Well, I'm just glad you're back, Frosh, and I promise I will never cheat on you again."
Ellie: "I'm back at The Core, not with you...And from now on, call me 'Ellie.'" - Jessie's Girl - Paige: "It behooves me as you and Eleanor's closest friend..."
Ellie: "Oh, actually, I don't really like you." - Pass the Dutchie - Paige: "And I can't believe we lived with each other for a year, without there being a murder!"
Ellie: "There's still time..." - Don't Stop Believin' - Craig: "Ellie, wait. I should have told you about Yvette."
Ellie: "No, you were trying to be a good friend, and I interpreted that as a romantic overture...again." - Degrassi Goes Hollywood - Ellie: "I, I just really have to stop thinking that my feelings for you will...ever be requited."
(Long pause)
Craig: "I had a really great time today." - Degrassi Goes Hollywood - Ellie: "What are you doing here?"
Craig: "So I have this life in LA. It's pretty perfect: dream job, dream apartment, great girlfriend...And all of a sudden, you show up and suddenly everything doesn't seem so perfect anymore."
Ellie: "'Cause that's, that's what I do. Yeah, um, I'm the one who messes up people's lives."
Craig: "No, Ellie, no."
Ellie: "You know what? Um, you should just stay away from me because, um, you'll be better off."
Craig: "Ellie..."
Ellie: "Go."
Craig: "You don't get it..." - Degrassi Goes Hollywood - Ellie: "Thanks again for all your help. You really came through for me."
Craig: "Call it even." - Degrassi Goes Hollywood - Ellie: "We'll always have L.A. right?"
Craig: "Someday, maybe." - Degrassi Goes Hollywood
