Exit Stage Left is a 1987 book by William Pasnak and the first Degrassi book to be about the characters in Degrassi Junior High and as such is the first Degrassi Classic novel. It's set after season 1 and doesn't have a main character, instead focusing on the students as they are putting up a play.
Blurb[]
How could one simple school play turn Degrassi Junior High upside down and inside out?
Stephanie Kaye, president of the student body, it sure she is going to be the star. Joey Jeremiah, class clown, thinks that if hegets a part in the play, Stephanie will finally notice him. LD has more important things on her mind than the play.
No one is prepared for what happens next... and Degrassi Junior High will never be the same again.
Trivia[]
- It's the only book not to have a single main character, and not to be named after them.
- It's set in the second term of the 1987/1988 school year, however it is significantly different to Degrassi Junior High (Season 2) that it cannot be considered part of its canon:
- The play in the book is not the same as the one shown in the episode Stage Fright.
- the protagonist is played by Lucy, not Kathleen.
- the story is about a poor family, not royalty.
- Rehearsals start as soon as the term starts, not a couple months later.
- Simon Dexter does not transfer to Degrassi, as such, Stephanie is still infatuated with Wheels.
- Voula still lives in downtown Toronto and as such is still a student.
- Spike is not pregnant with Emma.
- The play in the book is not the same as the one shown in the episode Stage Fright.
- It's revealed LD's family is from Corsica.
- It's revealed Snake Simpson's mother is mentally ill, although the exact condition is not said.
- Although it's not actually revealed whether it's true or not, it's heavily implied that the building of Degrassi Junior High School is haunted by a ghost.
