"I like girls. I guess I'm gay or lesbian, I haven't chosen nomenclature yet."
Fiona Celestine Arabella Coyne is a graduate and valedictorian of the Degrassi Community School's Class of 2013. She was from New York City, USA and is currently living in Rome, Italy. Although she and her twin brother Declan Coyne were born in Japan, Fiona considers Manhattan home. She transferred to Degrassi Community School in Season 9 during the second semester as a junior with her brother.
After being a "few credits shy," she had to repeat her senior year. Fiona once relied on money to do everything for her, but she has learned how to manage with less of it, after her mother Lara Coyne was put on house arrest on account of fraud in her foundation until the family's legal troubles were resolved. She was a talented artist and is also very interested in fashion, as shown through her unique sense of style. A loner who once feared her own independence, Fiona has been to rehab to take control of her alcoholism, has been put on medication due to her anxiety problems, and has realized that she is a lesbian.
She is best friends with Holly J. Sinclair, Imogen Moreno, and Eli Goldsworthy. She is also good friends with Anya MacPherson, Bianca DeSousa, Mike Dallas, and Drew Torres. Additional friends of hers include Chantay Black, Adam Torres, Dave Turner, and Marisol Lewis. She formerly had a conflict with Tinsley Wharton due to her promiscuous reputation but respects her now for helping her in her trial against her abusive ex-boyfriend Bobby Beckonridge. She also seems to be on good terms with former enemy Katie Matlin and has shown a dislike of Clare Edwards. She was portrayed by Annie Clark.
In Just Can't Get Enough, Fiona first appears with Declan as they exit their limo. Chantay Black shows her and Declan all around Degrassi. Fiona especially, seems rather aloof and cold to her new peers. She and Declan meet Peter Stone and his girlfriend Mia Jones and invite them to their parents' posh diplomat party, after hearing that Mia is a model.
When Declan sets Peter up for humiliation she playfully shakes her head in disbelief because she knows what's up Declan's sleeve.
When Peter is feeling insecure she comforts him. She chastises her cousin Victoria for giving Peter meth. She receives much attention that she does not want, especially from Bruce and Mark Fitzgerald.
On their date, Riley's friend that appeared in Season 8 comes back asking for information on Riley. Riley gets mad and he leaves with Fiona pretending he does not know who he is. Fiona initiates a relationship even though she has suspicions regarding his sexual orientation.
Riley attempts to sleep with Fiona. When he invites her to his house, he begins making out with her but she quickly pushes him off of her, telling him that she will not sleep with him. She makes a remark about him being gay. He loses his temper and demands Fiona to get out.
Fiona later confronts Riley the next day at school telling him that there's something wrong with him. She states that instead of being 'gay' he bashes gay people. Fiona breaks up with him because she doesn't want to be friends with or date someone who is afraid of who they are.
In Beat It (2),The next day Riley confronts her and tells her that he is being de-gayed. Fiona tells him that she doesn't understand why he can't accept being a gay person. She tells him that there is no way to cure "gayness."
When she is halfway down the hallway, Riley (experiencing negative effects from the steroids) yells, "Too bad you can't cure bitch!" She then tells Riley to never talk to her again.
She gives him the information he needs. Declan later informs
Holly J. that Fiona bribed all her friends for information on her.
In Heart Like Mine (2), Fiona is mad at Declan for being "Mr. Highschool," she tells him that she wants to be a part of Degrassi in some way. Nervously, Declan tells Fiona he'll get her an audition for the school play.
Fiona is happy.
After a few days, Declan tells her that she is not good enough. Fiona is upset and goes to the Zen Garden.
Declan tries to cheer her up, but she tells him to leave her alone. Declan goes to Anya and pleads her to give Fiona a part in the play. Anya confronts Fiona and Anya tells her that she could be the play's 'Fashion Designer'. Fiona is very happy that she received a part in the play production.
In Start Me Up, Fiona is with her cousin, Victoria, walking by The Dot when they see Peter. Peter tells them about "Above the Dot." Fiona tells him that it sounds cool. Victoria tells him that she'd love to go.
Peter tells her
that people with drugs can't go. Fiona tells Peter that Vicky has been clean for a few months and that she has a badge to prove it. But Fiona didn't know that Vicky still took crystal meth and that she was hiding it from her.
In Keep On Loving You, at play practice Fiona comes to see Declan. Declan tells her that he is nervous to tell Holly J. that he loves her because of what happened with his previous girlfriend.
The next day, Holly J. sees Fiona in the school library and tells her that Declan gave her their grandmother's bracelet and she wants to return it due to the fact that Declan didn't respond to Holly J. telling him that she loves him.
Fiona laughs and tells her that it's their grandmother's bracelet and Declan would only give it to someone he loves.
Holly J. asks why he couldn't say it then. Fiona tells her that Declan had a true love and he told her that he loved her and she cheated on him, he doesn't want that to happen again. Holly J. anxiously grabs the bracelet and goes to find Declan.
Later that day, Holly J. sees Fiona's Facerange status, and Fiona tells Holly J. the truth about them moving back to Manhattan.
It seems she did this on purpose as a way to break-up Holly J. and Declan, although it did not work. Holly J. is excited to be off to another summer vacation, but this time with her boyfriend Declan.
After school is finally let out, Declan invites everyone over to his house for a pool party. Spinner attends.
While Holly J. and Jane are changing he overhears them talking about how breaking off the affair with Declan helped her because Declan is her love. Spinner breaks up with Jane and punches Declan. While attempting to cheer Jane up, Holly J. also needs to help Declan out too.
Seeing Jane so glum, Holly J. asks her to go to Manhattan with them for the summer. Jane says yes. The next day they're off and they go to Manhattan. When they get there Holly J. is surprised on how big their Manhattan home is.

After that, she goes in to see that her boss, Kristin is rude. She decides to make the most of it and introduces herself to her, she gets a clever nickname, "Initial," because Kristin likes the 'J' in Holly J. She also is given a banana each day because Kristin loves potassium.
Later, Holly J. learns that Declan and Fiona are the city's power siblings after Fiona stops by at TVM to say hi, and get an internship.
The next day, after finding out that Jane has become the lead singer of the hit band Flashin' Midnight, Holly J. is asked to do research and stay late at TVM. She does so and ends up not being able to attend the opera with Declan. She later finds out Fiona goes with him instead.
The next day at work, Holly J. is talking to Fiona and realizes Fiona's true intentions. Holly J. locks Fiona into a copy room.
Replacing Fiona, Holly J. interviews Jane on the show. Holly J. notices that Fiona is distraught and managed to get out of the copy room.
She sees Fiona on the phone, realizing she's talking to Declan. He promptly shows up and Holly J. tries to defend herself, but Declan doesn't allow it, instead he quickly makes her out to be the antagonist. Walking away, Fiona gives Holly J. a taunting, knowing look.
Later on, Declan sits them both down and tells them that they need to make up because he wants to spend the whole summer with the both of them.
They agree, and Fiona hugs Holly J. Fiona then suggests that they have a party so Holly J. can meet some of their New York friends. Fiona then introduces her to Declan's past girlfriends, and they tell Holly J. that Fiona drove them all away.
Holly J. is upset, but Declan tells her he wants to be with her, point blank. Fiona is jealous again and drinks herself into a stupor.
While drunk, she makes a scene and Holly J. tells her that her jealousy is "a little inappropriate". Fiona responds, "You want inappropriate?" and kisses Declan. Everyone is shocked, and Fiona faints, using her fake unconsciousness as an excuse to avoid the consequences of her actions.
Holly J. is in disbelief and tired of coming second to Fiona. She and Jane leave, while Fiona secretly smirks to herself.
The next day, Declan tells Fiona that she needs help with her jealousy and entitlement issues. She then breaks down, lashing out at Declan, throwing items out of her purse and calling him inconsiderate. He tells her that she's going to the Hamptons with their parents.
Fiona tells Declan that she hates him in anger, and he leaves her to find Holly J. and make things work with her.
Fiona is later shown just leaving Manhattan to go to the Hamptons with her mom.

The next morning, Fiona is waiting for Bobby to pick her up and chastises him for being late. When she tries to walk away during their little argument, Bobby forcefully grabs her arm. Fiona tells him he's hurting her, and he apologizes kissing her arm.
Later on, Fiona has Bobby over while she's working on her uniform designs. Bobby is unsupportive, and only
wants to hook up. Fiona doesn't, but he forces himself on her pushing her onto the couch.
Fiona tries to get away, slapping him. Bobby hits her back in anger, bruising her eye.
At the brunch, in which Fiona reveals her designs, Bobby shows up with flowers. Her mom calls for her, Fiona answers saying she'll be right there as she puts cover-up on her black eye to hide it.

Bobby comes over, and she tells him she saw him with Tinsley. He makes up excuses, saying she was all over him and he's not interested in her. Later that day, Mrs. Coyne makes plans for them to go to dinner with the Beckonridges. Fiona says she's still sick and can't make it.
Mrs Coyne tells her that Bobby left a gift, a snowglobe from Aspen where the Coynes/Beckenridges went on vacation years ago.
Declan comes, and tries to talk Fiona into going to dinner with them. He calls her bluff, and leaves. Fiona frustratingly throws her snow globe at the fireplace, crying. Later on, she Skypes Holly J. while drinking champagne.
She starts to tell her what's going on, asking "Why can't I be happy? It's like I'm not built the same way." But Anya interrupts before she can tell Holly J. anymore.
The next day at school, Fiona doesn't want to deal with Bobby. He tells her that it was a one time thing. Fiona gets mad because he lied, his phone rings and she grabs it. It's a message from Tinsley saying "I can't wait for tonight!"
Meaning he's still hooking up with Tinsley, Fiona runs off in anger and he follows her up the stairs. She yells at him, and he pushes her down the steps. Fiona tells Bobby that she wants to break up, and Bobby says "No, you don't."
In Breakaway (1), Fiona goes up to the roof of Vanderbilt to hide from Bobby. She calls Declan, who has learned from Tinsley that Fiona is on the roof. Fiona tells him what happened, and Declan tells her to come down from the roof. Later on, at home, she puts makeup on her black eye, enhancing it. She takes a picture of her enhanced eye
and tweets it. Bobby sees it and is pissed, and tells Declan that Fiona is a liar and that they are broken up.
Fiona arrives at school and Declan asks what happened to her black eye. She tells him she darkened it a bit and he doesn't believe her anymore.
Later on, after talking to Holly J., Declan goes to Fiona telling her he'll believe whatever she has to say. He tells Fiona that Holly J. asked about her and after he leaves Fiona calls to book a flight to Toronto.
She surprises Holly J. at Degrassi. Fiona stays at Degrassi through the elections, ignoring her phone when her mom calls. Holly J. tells Fiona that she called Declan, and her mom shows up.

Sav likes Holly J., but she doesn't like him. Or at least that’s what she tells Fiona (as she also tries to convince herself), but she can’t deny that she likes him, while at the same time she’s not over Declan. Fiona’s there to constantly remind her of that. Now Sav and Holly J. come to the conclusion that they can be together with no strings attached.

Her mom smells the champagne on her breath and then she grabs the bottle and yanks it from Fiona. She discovers the champagne and says, "This is how you're dealing with this."

Fiona tells Adam that if she was in New York, she would be preparing for the East Village Artists Ball, saying that it is the night of the year due to crazy invites, stunning couture and her favorite part, champagne fountains everywhere.

To make Adam feel better, Fiona says that she likes how he is the "best of both worlds," because he's "boyish and girlish." Adam becomes angry because he doesn't want to be reminded of his female body parts, and because he realizes Fiona is a lesbian and was only
using him. Adam then leaves, telling Fiona that she should accept that she wants a girl. One of the thugs slams Fiona's face on the concrete, scraping her cheek and giving her a black eye.
The next day in school, Imogen notices the fresh bruises on Fiona's face, prompting her to divulge what happened that fateful night. She comforts Fiona, and together they walk down the hallway.
On the way, Imogen trips and her report card falls out of her bag. To Eli's surprise, she hasn't opened it yet.
Imogen has flunked all her classes and will have to repeat her senior year. They meet up with Fiona and Imogen is amazed by her work on prom.
Later at Fiona's house, Imogen is debating whether she should wear her hair up or down. Fiona tells her to wear it up so she can show off the necklace she made for her.
When Fiona brings up graduation, Imogen lays on her bed and cries. She reveals to Fiona that she has failed her classes.
Fiona is understanding, but just as they kiss, Fiona's mother enters the building, and is no longer on house arrest, meaning the Coynes are rich again.
This itself isn't the good news, as it turns out a famous fashion designer, Federico Cavalieri, is interested in Fiona's work. Imogen is thrilled, that is until she finds out Fiona will have to move to Italy. Imogen can’t imagine saying goodbye to Fiona.
At prom, Imogen, Fiona, Bianca, and Drew are sitting at the same table discussing Cavalieri's offer. Bianca and Drew seem supportive, and Fiona seems interested, surprising Imogen, who thinks it is a terrible idea. Imogen is distraught at the idea of losing Fiona.
Fiona tries to cheer Imogen up, but leaves to announce Prom King and Queen, leaving her purse with Imogen.
While she is away, Fiona's phone rings and Imogen sees that it is Cavalieri. Without thinking properly, she impersonates Fiona and schedules an appointment on prom night. Imogen arrives and pretends to be very drunk. Thinking she is Fiona, Cavalieri leaves outraged.
Imogen returns to prom and finds Fiona looking for her. She tells her that she went home to check on her dad.
While talking, Fiona gets a call from her mom. While she talks, Imogen leaves, afraid, and asks Bianca and Drew for advice. Before they can give her any, she sees Fiona looking at her angrily.
When she walks over to talk to her, Fiona tells her that Cavalieri called her mom and told her that she was drunk, and because of Fiona's past, her mother called rehab.
Imogen tries tell her that they can straighten things out, but Fiona tells her that he has already arrived at the airport, and leaves to enjoy prom as best she can without her. Imogen runs to the closet and cries where Eli and Clare run into her discussing something (see below).
Eli tries to comfort her and she realizes what she has to do. Imogen rushes to the airport to explain everything and show Cavalieri Fiona's artwork.
There, Cavalieri is surprised to see her and hear her story, and reluctantly decides to give Fiona a second (or first) chance.
The next morning, Imogen tells Mrs. Coyne that she re-scheduled the meeting, and apologizes. As she leaves, Fiona stops her and accepts her apology. They make up and go to graduation.
Unfortunately, Imogen breaks up with Fiona after her valedictorian speech. The two share a last kiss and a teary-eyed smile as Fiona returns.
Fiona is mentioned by Imogen in Summertime when she tells Adam about their break up and how they dated for half a year.
In About A Girl, Imogen mentions Fiona again when Adam tries to imitate Becky. Since her fight with Fiona was because she imitated her, Imogen keeps warning Adam not to imitate Becky.
In Young Forever, Fiona posts a message on Adam's facerange memorial stating she was shocked about Adam's death and she wished she could have made it to the funeral. Eli also mentions her when Adam set up a New York party in the abandoned church for her.
In Close to Me, Imogen mentions to Becky that she still misses Fiona and how in love they were together, but they barely talk anymore. Becky says how sad that is to her.
As the gorgeous daughter of a wealthy foreign diplomat, Fiona has traveled the world, and her globetrotting, posh lifestyle has been reflected in her eclectic, high-end wardrobe. She is particularly fond of berets, high heels and statement jewelry. Her long, dark brown hair also seems to be a source of great pride for her, as it is almost always worn down in elegant curls, and accentuated by accessories such as scarves or headbands.
In Season 9, Fiona seemed to use fashion to distance herself from other students at Degrassi. Due to her disdain for her fellow peers, Fiona chose clothing to emphasize her own privilege. Never one for dressing down, Fiona experimented with clothes and accessories featuring contrasting patterns and textures. Though her choices were sometimes strange, they were always bold and memorable.
Fiona's style was toned down slightly in season 10. As her friendship with Holly J. blossomed, she began emulating her new best friend's clothing choices. The softening of her attitude was reflected in her choice of less outlandish clothing, and the development of a more consistent, "girly" style. Nonetheless, she still maintained her love of designer labels.
When uniforms were introduced at Degrassi, Fiona's keen sense of style enabled her to customize her uniform to suit her personality. She typically accessorized her blue polo shirt and khaki skirt with coloured or patterned tights, high heels, brooches, and blazers. It was also around this time that she began experimenting with bolder make-up, no doubt to add more colour to her dull school ensemble.
In Season 11, Fiona took an interest in life-drawing model Charlie. As the two pursued a relationship, Charlie's artistic influence began rubbing off on her younger girlfriend; Fiona's outfits outside of school began including more colourful, bohemian-inspired patterns and accessories, usually offset by an edgy, military style jacket.
During the second half of season 11, Fiona came back to Degrassi to repeat her senior year, as she did not have enough credits to graduate with her class the year before. Though she missed her best friend Holly J. dearly, she was excited about the opportunity to reinvent herself. To coincide with this prospect, Fiona straightened her hair. Her hair would remain straight until winter break.
Fiona returned to Degrassi in the new year with curled hair, as well as a new girlfriend in classmate Imogen. Imogen's "quirky-with-an-edge" style has inspired Fiona's most recent fashion choices. Fiona is now sporting slightly more tomboyish, butch-like clothing, including leather, biker-style and studded denim jackets, tight jeans, and slouchy beanies. She has also been seen wearing fewer colourful patterns, opting for more neutral colours such as black, and shades of grey. Nonetheless, Fiona manages to offset the edginess of her outfits with lovely, eye-catching rings, necklaces, and earrings.

I was at my lowest point. I skipped graduation to go to the liquor store... okay, that might have been an over-share, but my point is, I was a mess, and so scared of the future. I had to come back to Degrassi, even though all of my friends were moving on. But then I made new friends. Really, really great friends. So don't be afraid of change, no matter how scary it seems. If I can make it through, so can you. So what more is there to say. Thanks Degrassi, I've had the time of my life." - The Time of My Life
