The friendship between Christine Nelson and Manny Santos began before the first season of Degrassi: The Next Generation.

Overview[]
The friendship began through Emma Nelson as Spike is Emma's mother and Manny is Emma's best friend. Spike was a mother figure to Manny for the majority of the show as Manny confided in her about her pregnancy and Spike took Manny into her home after her own parents disowned her.
Season 1[]
In Mother and Child Reunion (2), Manny tells Spike of the danger that Emma is in with her Internet friend, Jordan.
Season 2[]
In When Doves Cry (1), Manny attended Spike's birthday party.
Season 3[]
In the Season 3 episode Accidents Will Happen (1), a distressed Manny comes running up to Spike as she is taking in her groceries. Manny then tells Spike of her pregnancy and Spike is with when the test results come up positive.
In Accidents Will Happen (2), Spike encourages Manny that whatever she decides to do, it is up to her and no one else.
Season 5[]
In Venus (2), after Manny's parents kick her out, Spike and Snake willingly take her into their home.
In I Against I, Manny is present when Caitlin Ryan brings strippers to Spike's house to cheer her up on her anniversary.
Season 6[]
In Don't You Want Me (1), Spike and Manny are with Emma as she takes a pregnancy test, and Spike puts her hand on Mannyās shoulder saying āHere we go againā possibly referring to when Manny got pregnant in Accidents Will Happen (1)The test comes out negative, to all three's relief.
Season 8[]
In Uptown Girl (1), Spike is shown sending off Emma, Manny, and Liberty Van Zandt at Smithdale University along with Snake. She is slightly hesitant to let the girls go.
