TeenNick (originally announced under the spelling TEENick in 2009) is an American network owned by ViacomCBS, acting as a merger between two defunct programming blocks which also targeted a teen audience: TEENick on Nickelodeon and The N on Noggin.

The creators of Degrassi were told that the show would be cancelled by CTV before season 10 due to a decline in ratings since season 7, but luckily the creators partnered with TeenNick in order to ensure that it continued. With TeenNick's massive promotional support, the show was saved from early cancellation and went on do do four more seasons. [1]

The format of the series underwent several changes during its later seasons after the involvement of TeenNick. The tenth season partnered promotional involvement marked a change in production style to a telenovela format during the summer months,[2] before returning to its standard fall-spring schedule until its end in 2015.[3] It aired Seasons 1-14 of Degrassi from its launch in 2009 until 2015 in the United States. As of 2020, the channel still airs reruns of shows that originated on the TEENick block (such as iCarly), but as of the mid-2010s, all original productions from the Noggin block have been dropped.

Launch as TeenNick (2009ā€“present)[]

The channel was originally announced on March 12, 2009, under the spelling "TEENick" (identical to its namesake programming block). It eventually launched with the TeenNick name on September 28, 2009 at 6 a.m. ET/5 a.m. CT. The channel's logo, which is part of a global branding effort across all four Nickelodeon channels, was announced at a launch party for the channel on June 18, 2009. NCredible founder Nick Cannon (declared in publicity materials as the "Chairman of TeenNick") has a presence on the channel, along with new programming exclusive to the channel.

The channel merged programming from two teen blocks owned by Viacom: Nickelodeon's TEENick and Noggin's The N. Some of The N's programming was carried over to the new channel, including Degrassi: The Next Generation; however most of The N's original series were not carried over to the relaunched TeenNick channel. The majority of the channel's programming consists of reruns from the main Nickelodeon channel.

On February 1, 2010, TeenNick began incorporating music videos onto its morning and afternoon schedule on a regular basis, with videos airing between 6 a.m.-3 p.m. ET (this had been done periodically for some time prior to that date, Obess This has been airing between 6-8 a.m. ET, though weekends); when music videos are scheduled, all programs will end two to three minutes earlier than usual.

Beginning in June 2010 and completed in September 2010, the network began using generic closing credit sequences on its programs in a manner similar to that used by sister channels Nickelodeon and Nicktoons, and several other channels owned by MTV Networks.

The 90's Are All That (2011-2015)/The Splat (2015-2017)/NickSplat (2017-2019)/NickRewind (2019-2022)[]

On July 25, 2011, TeenNick commenced a block dedicated to popular Nickelodeon programs from the 1990s, titled The 90's Are All That. The title came from the long-running Nick series, All That, which aired from 1994-2005. The block's demographic is primarily for adults between the ages of 18-34, who were initially part of the 7-16 demographic during the 1990s. The block runs from 12am-4am ET. On October 5, 2015, the block expanded to eight hours encompassing the whole overnight block 10pm-6am ET, and began airing a broader variety of classic series and was rebranded as The Splat, then NickSplat in 2017 and now NickRewind in 2019. In January 2022, NickRewind shut down, making TeenNick a 24-hour network for the first time in 10 years.
